I'm switching Stogie from Innova EVO (small bites) to Taste of the Wild, as a test. He's been eating the EVO for some time - but he eats it out of pure starvation! He doesn't look forward to eating it - ever... And that's why I'm on the quest for a new kibble. :(

Reading the ingredients of the Taste of the Wild - Wetlands Formula it looks ok??....

Ingredients:
Duck, duck meal, chicken meal, egg product, sweet potatoes, peas, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols, potatoes, roasted quail, roasted duck, smoked turkey, natural flavor, tomato pomace, ocean fish meal, choline chloride, dried chicory root, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, yucca schidigera extract, Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Saccharomyces cerevesiae fermentation solubles, dried Aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin D supplement, folic acid.
I guess we'll see how Stogie like's it. I just bought it Yesterday - and he ate the ENTIRE first bowl.................................................

PS: I'd like to add cost is not a factor for me, because Stogie is 9 lbs, and eats about 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of kibble a day, so his 6.6lbs bag of Evo at around $17 last's for 6 weeks (give or take). :) However the taste of the wild is only $10 for 5lbs, but its still one of those hard to find brand that is only available at 1 retailer locally - luckily that retailer is only about 4 miles from my house.

Is anyone out there feeding this? and what are your opinions or experience with this food......... Looking forward to reading the replies.

I feel the TOTW feline edition to my cat and he hasn't complained. ;) I think there are some who have fed it before or are feeding it now, hopefully they can give some input! Good luck. :)

Just switched Baxter from Canidae to TOTW-Wetlands Formula. He loves the food--but he ate the Canidae very well too. Can't speak to much more than that--he just started on it this week.

Both mine loved TOTW's taste - but both dogs couldn't maintain weight on it, so we switched.

Probably good for a Dachshund though - gotta fight obesity at every front in that breed! :)

Spanky loves it....but we were coming off a crummy prescription diet, so anything might taste better.
And I put him on it to see if he could possibly lose some weight on a good food rather than that crummy prescription diet.
I can't say that he's lost any, but he's definitely maintaining at the very least, and he actually looks more fit and defined even if the scale hasn't moved all that much.

Meg loved the food, but it seemed to bother her stomach a bit. Never anything too severe, but a bit of gas or loose stools every day - something I almost never see with her. I donated the rest of the bags I had purchased to a rescue and put her back on her trusty Orijen. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to try the TOTW again with a different dog though, or try a different formula for Meg even, but I had to special order it and it was a pain.

I've been feeding it since January. I rotate between the varieties. My dogs are doing very well on it and they like the food

I definitely recommend Taste of the Wild. Their food is grain-free and the protein comes from real meat rather than vegetable-based protein.

Did your dog get the loose stools after you began to give her Taste of the Wild, and did you slowly switch over to Taste of the Wild? Sometimes what can happen is dogs will get loose stool from getting a diet change, and especially when it's a sudden change. Vets usually recommend slowly switching over by mixing the food with the old food.

The issues were all after she was on Taste of the Wild. I didn't switch her slowly, because I never do. She rarely eats the same thing more than a couple days in a row, with a mix of raw and kibble. I switch the Orijen between the fish and poultry varieties, and mix in various brands of canned as well. She's also gone through bags of various other dog foods (Innova regular, EVO, Cal Nat, ZiwiPeak, Timberwolf). She's generally got a stomach of iron, and I have never seen her have full-blown diarreha in the two and a half years I've had her. The issues she had on TOTW were very mild; probably not even something that would be noticed in many dogs. Her normally strong stomach just made it stand out to me. I firmly believe that, even when looking at a variety of high quality foods, there are going to be some that don't agree with some dogs. As I said, I'm not putting down the TOTW at all; it just didn't seem to work well for us. With the two varieties of Orijen, and the amount of raw that she gets, I feel comfortable with the variety of protein she is getting, so I will stick with what is working for us.

So far Stogie has done well on it, he's just a finicky little bas***d! :) He eats this, and it has a distinctive crunch, very different from the EVO has had been eating for years prior.

No notice of gas, loose stool, or stomach issues. Maintaining weight? well he's 9.1lbs right now (I just weighed him the other day), so I guess I'll see after a month or so.

I just wish he'd get excited to eat his kibble. :( nothing seems to excite him about eating - unless its "our" food.

That's strange considering most dogs, including my own, LOVE the taste of Taste of the Wild and go nuts for it.

Do you think it could be the flavor of the Taste of the Wild? They have three different formulas - High Prairie (bison), Pacific Stream (salmon), and Wetlands (duck). I would try changing the flavor.
