So I'm trying to convince my friend to give it a shot. She's an ACO and generally works 60+ hours a week, not including commute, and she's always too wiped to go out after work or even on her days off. She really wants to meet someone but refuses to go down the online route.

Anyhow, i want to collect a body of evidence to show her that it can work (or maybe that it doesn't work at all and I'm the one that needs to give up the dream, LOL!). So I have a few questions...

Have you tried online dating?
If so, what service?
Did you go on any actual dates?
If so, how many?
Good experiences?
Bad experiences?
Do you think it was worth it, overall?

If you have not tried it, do you know anyone who has successfully?
Unsuccessfully?

Thanks!

I met Aaron online, but not on an actual online dating site (like matchmaker or whatever)
We met on Deviantart.com and were discussing one of my photos and just really hit it off.
I don't know if that helps or not but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I did not ever use an actual service but I have dated several people who I met online. For the most part, they were good experiences (and my fiance I also met online, so definitely a good experience there). I also have gone on many one time dates with people I met online. Some of them, we didn't want to date anymore but became friends. While I was in law school, it was hard to meet people outside of the school, so many of my friends and people I dated I met online. I liked it because I could talk to them for as long as I wanted without any obligation to meet if we didn't hit it off. I didn't find that most people were much different in person than online either.

No, that totally helps! Maybe she could just join more forums and meet someone. If she's not at work or playing with the dog, she's online, so maybe just participating in new places will introduce her to more peeps...

She's very, very anti "dating service".

I've met 3 people from a musician's forum...one is my fiance. I never went there intending to meet anyone, but common interests led to IMing and so on

My sister met her husband on cupid.com. She met with 1 guy before her husband. They didn't hit it off. Then she went out with Shane and 3 months later they were planning the wedding.

I've never tried any of the online dating sites so I have no input there... but with as busy as people are these days and how little time people find to go out and meet people I can see how an online dating service could work.

Depends on the person though, I've spoken to a lot of people online, but I don't get a good feel for them until I meet them... And if I speak to someone for more than a couple of weeks, they just become that online person I speak too rather than some kind of future potential anything.

Different horses for different courses.

I'm sure if she wants to meet someone, it'll happen eventually :)
