Ok, so when I have a litter, it tends to generate friends. When I had my last litter, the owners of the five that stayed local to the area constantly saw each other and they ended up as friends that still hang out to this day.

Except for one. One family wouldn't go to the puppy play dates and other stuff that we organized. I have been keeping up on the dog, and for the most part, he's been doing ok. For the past month however, I've lost track. Today, I got a phone call from someone with a pup in Minnesota who was visiing with the person back in Kansas who has this pup.

Apparently, the wife has gotten sick and the pup has gotten thin, and since the wife's been sick and the husband is about to get deployed, the dog has been living all day in his crate. He's also gotten extremely thin to the point that he's been described as a "walking skeleton". The weird part though is, I've contacted their vet, and got the dog's records. He's been there regularly, it's not like hes been getting proper care.

I understand that there are sometimes life situations where you can't keep a hyper dog. That's fine. These people did have good intentions, and until I lost track with them, he was well on his way to getting his TDI cert.

The problem here though, is that rather than giving the pup back to me as our contract states, they're trying to resell the dog themselves. They're asking $100 for this pup that they paid $700 for just to get a quick buck and get him gone.

I haven't been able to find out yet if they still have the dog or not, I've been calling my friends in Fort Leavenworth to try to find out whether or not they still have the dog, but these folks have been very hard to get ahold of since the wife's gotten sick.

I don't hold any malice towards these folks, I hope their lot in life improves, I really do, but I want my puppy back. According to my contract, it's my right as a breeder.

The pup at three months with his father-

Isn't it a breach on contract for them to sell the puppy? Can you arrange for a lawyer, or even a "lawyer" (raises hand!) to call them?

LOL I've given it thought, but on the whole they're good people. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt before I try to call a lawyer. I'm hoping that the husband just freaked out but hasn't acted yet. On of the people in Ft Leavenworth who bought a pup is an road MP, so I have a bit of sway there as well. ;)

I'll keep you guys updated.

IF you have the hundred to spare i would just get him out of there and see what is wrong with his weight. People just don't understand how much those puppies are the breeder's babies. By the time you bring legalities in this he could go over the edge. Good luck to you, i hope you can set his life right.

Indeed, I would pay whatever it takes to get my boy back. I really shouldn't call him a pup though, because hes almost a year old. I really hope I can get my boy back.

At a year old I would definitely still call him a pup, he isn't an adult yet, LOL

I hope you can manage to get him back while still keeping good relations with them..........it isn't easy in these situations.

Thats terrible!!! :( Get your dog back!!! Good people or not, a dog shouldnt have to suffer due to a life crisis. You have rights to this dog. It doesnt have to get ugly try to reason with them, but this situation is clearly black and white. I hope you get him back!!! :)
