This is Amadeus, a seven year old Blue Headed Pionus. He is such a sweet boy and is adjusting very well to his new digs. I've only had him two days and he's sitting on my shoulder as I type this and is happy to have me give him some good head rubs/scratches. I lost my Senegal 1 year ago who I had for 12 years and was broken hearted at the loss. I still have a cockatiel that I've owned for 11 years but it just wasn't the same.

Luckily, Molly is very good with birds and actually expects them to play with her when she brings them her toys.

I LOVE PIONUS! You're SO LUCKY. I hand raised one I named "Butch" back in 2003 when I worked at PetsMart - it was between him, and Seven, my cockatiel. What sealed the deal was that the bird had to live with my boyfriend my freshman year of college, so I went with the 'tiel, who still saw me as mama-bird, whereas I thought the Pionus would bond to the bf. He's ADORABLE <3 <3 lol

Thanks. I know he is going to be a real joy. I sent an email to his previous owner to let her know he is doing very well, and she was relieved and appreciated the update. She parted with him because she works and her husband works shift work and felt Amadeus wasn't getting the attention he deserved.

I had contacted a number of people who were selling their birds and when I read about Pionus, I felt it would be the type of parrot I would enjoy and pose no threat to the cockatiel. I can see he is more relaxed tonight than last night and know he is not stressed. I know I made the perfect choice - he is so sweet and is relaxed and enjoying me scratching his beautiful head.

He hasn't started saying the words he knows yet, and hopefully will in the next few days. Right now it's just bird noises and the odd screech.

Pets are wonderful.
