my dogs have problems with fleas for some time now...i have tried using flea busting shampoo and powder to no avail...where do fleas come from anyways? we live in a tropical country so our weather is always warm. does the weather play a role in the fleas my pets have? our vet suggested to have my dogs have thier flea shots but it only lasted for five months and were very much expensive on my moms part.after five months wallah! here they were once again... does anybody know how to effectively control fleas inexpensively?
ive been giving them baths twice weekly now because it is once again summer and thier fleas seemed to multiply overnight! i am a nursing student and am pretty much always busy..especially now beacuse enrollment is nearing ... please help me!

i read an article that a vet wrote about using borax to treat the carpets and under the dog bed..through out the home because his daughter was as allergic to pesticides as i am. I have done just that and never had any problems. I bought a big box of muleteam borax in the laundry section and would shake it into the rug and use a broom to work it down good into the fibers. It kills the fleas in their larva stage. Make sure you use it in and under the dog bed as well. The flea lays the eggs and they hatch into these little worm looking things..like mosqiuto kickers..that later go into the adult phase which is that damnable hateful blood sucking nasty bug. I would retreat after i vacuumed until i had my flea problem solved. I would bathe my dog using lots of shampoo (soap kills fleas) but doesn't kill the ones that jump on after the dog is dry..so we had a LOT of baths. I cant be around pesticides because they make me very sick. Other people i know swear by advantage or similar products but i am afraid to use them, especially on Victor. Since i bathe my dogs at least once a week we just simply don't have fleas and haven't had for years. The one time i did it was necessary to treat the yard. IF you don't they will pick them up every single time they go outside. My mom thinks her flea comb does the job and it just makes me nuts for she gets a flea infestation and every time my dogs go over there i have to bathe them as soon as we get home. I have told her that sure her flea comb may get the older ones but those mean little ones slip right through and for every 2 she catches, she misses about 10:( I hate fleas!

fleas can also come into your house via you...on your pant legs, etc. then they cozy in, and jump on your pets to feed. you can treat your yard, and smkie's advice is great. :) worse than the nasty bugs they already are is that some dogs are so allergic to their bite. UGH! just do treat the house cause usually that's where they are once established. I used Frontline Plus, but I found that my shepherd seemed to suddenly have a reaction to it. the topical treatments are so effective, tho. I may give another brand one more try cause I hate fleas too!!
