She's been acting strange the past few days. At first I thought it was the heat, but today, it's cooler than other days. She's following my brother, my mum and myself around the house, scratching on doors when we go to the bathroom, sitting right beside us, and basically not leaving us alone. She's always been a very loving dog, and likes cuddles, but when we try and cuddle her, she squirms away and goes back to sitting next to us, so it's not attention she wants. I can't think of anything else that could be wrong with her, besides the heat, which I'm trying to help her with.

Her lower jaw has also been having random 'wobbly' moments, which my boy dog usually gets when he smells a bitch in season.

I don't know what else to do! I hate not being able to help her. She's asleep now which is a relief!

When was the last time you had the dog to a vet for an exam?. Maybe the dog is trying to tell you something by being clingy and not allowing cuddle time. How long have you had the dog and how is the dog when she is left alone in the house by herself. Perhaps a visit to the vet is in order to rule out any physical problems.

We had her at the vets in February to have her anal glands done, and the vet did a quick check then. We've had her since a pup and she's just turn 4 years. As far as I know, she's fine when she's left alone, although can be very possessive so we can't leave her alone with chewy toys or treats as she attacks my other dog, and she can bite! She seems to be focusing on following my mum more than anyone, even though I'm her main carer.

I'll see how she is over the next couple of days, and I'll take her to the vets if there's no improvement. Thanks for your help!

Oh, and ideas on the wobbly lower jaw? I've never heard of it in female dogs before, that's all. It's very strange lol.

*EDIT* I just thought. I put her a flea collar on a couple of days ago. It's hard to pin point exactly when the behaviour started, but do you think it could be linked to this? She does sulk when she has to do something she doesn't want to. Maybe it smells weird to her? I don't know. Just a suggestion lol.

Personal feelings ahead but... UGH, I hate flea collars. I won't use them at all, and i definitely wouldn't use them with a dog around other animals. If she's playing with another dog and they were to bite at the flea collar ingesting it could be toxic. I'm not a huge fan of topical flea treatments either but something like Advantix or Vectra 3D is infinitely better than a flea collar. There's also the whole issue that flea collars don't really work well. They keep fleas away from the neck but they usually just end up hanging out around the hindquarters. They also don't generally do anything about ticks (there is one collar that does), though depending where you are that might not be as big an issue as it is around me.

The collar could also be causing an irritation to her (it's constant chemicals around her neck) and she might be following people around hoping they will get it off.

I'd remove the flea collar asap and see how she does after you do that.

It's a long shot, but it may actually be partial seizures from the flea collar. Flea collars tend not to have as many ill effects as the cheap topical flea treatments (things like Advantix, Frontline, Advantage, Vectra, etc are much safer than store brands), but it's still a possibility.

If you're talking about this: YouTube - Golden Retriever with Chattering Teeth, my dog does this a lot when she gets excited.

About the rest, I'd take the flea collar off. Not sure if it'll help your problem, but I competely agree with Xie - they're unsafe if other dogs are around, not very useful, and could possibly be causing this problem. When it comes to flea control, you get what you pay for.... so it's definately worth buying something from your vet.

In my mind the only thing a flea collar is good for is the bag in the vacuum. Chop it up and toss a couple of bits into your vacuum bag and you'll kill any you get off the rug.

Other than that, it's just a ring of toxic chemicals and that can't be good for the dog.
