Well it's been 9 1/2 weeks now, and things are finally settling down around here.

Much thanks to those of you who had advice and encouragement to offer (none to those who just had criticism).

We found a home for the last two of the puppies that we're not keeping (we're keeping two) last week. We could have easily "gotten rid of" all of them at six weeks, but I decided that they could only go to homes that we could be 100% sure would spay/nueter and my husband (I'm not sure this was totally neccessary, but I agree with him that it's optimal for a puppy to grow up with a sibling) demanded that they had to go in pairs - so finding people that had the means/ability/love for two puppies, and that we trusted to meet their commitment to spay/nueter took a little extra time. It was worth it though, as all of the new owners have been in contact with us repeatedly to give us happy updates of how they are doing. The one that we had to send out single was to a retired widow lady who is home all the time and that puppy is her life! She doesn't drive, so hubby is going over to her house to pick the pooch up to take it to the vet for shots etc for her. We paid for the first 3 series of shots and spaying/nuetering at the vet of choice for the nine we found homes for. Ouch! Not too cheap.

Anyway, we kept two (again at hubbies insistance), "Bowser" and "Zsa Zsa" (remember my daughter named them). We kept the second largest of the litter, "Bowser" (a boy) and the second smallest of the litter, "Zsa Zsa" (a girl). Hubbie claims that to him Zsa Zsa looks just like a pit bull, and Bowser - well we don't know what he looks like - some people claim he looks like a St. Bernard. Whatever he winds up looking like, he is going to be big! Hopefully he'll be a gigantic, intimidating dog, and Zsa Zsa will look exactly like a pit bull when she's grown, as we have some security concerns - not that either of them will actually be mean enough to bite anyone (pretty hard to get a dog to be a mean biter when you give it lots of love, and who with children would want a mean biter anyway), but they hopefully will "look scary" enough to scare off home invaders etc, and will bark anytime anybody shows up at the house.

These two pups really love each other. The have ferocious sounding wrestling matches constantly, where you think they are killing each other, but every time the noise stops for a minute, and the dog that was "winning" backs off because he/she thinks they hurt the other, the other pops up from their submissive position and attacks again! Every time one of them is sleeping, and the other awake, and the awake one wants to go to sleep, he/she looks around to see where bro/sis is sleeping and goes over and plops down on top of bro/sis to sleep.

Zsa Zsa is definitely the smarter. Bowser only puts his front feet in the litter box to pee/poop:( They both are "sit" trained now.

Anybody have reccommendations on how soon I can let them outside without worrying about them getting sick from parvo or distemper? They've had their first two shots.

So here is a picture of our big, burly, beefy, boy Bowser, and our sweet, little petite, girl Zsa Zsa. They are nine and a half weeks old. Bowser weighs 27 pounds, Zsa Zsa weighs 20.

They are cuties! I love Bowser's coloring!:)

Hopefully all the pups continue to do well in their new homes. The new owners will have their hands full and hopefully they are experienced enough to deal with two pups. It is so easy to give them lots of love but training two at a time is definitely tough. It isn't something I would do or would recommend to anyone but in the right home, with the right dogs, it can be done with plenty of dedication and luck.

Good to know all found homes, though I echo Grammy with the caution about littermate bonding problems!

ZsaZsa and Bowser are so cute!

This is the first time I have heard of someone INSISTING the pups go in pairs? most breeders will avoid selling two to the same home because of the amount of problems that could arise, but so long as the home they have gone to are really capable of handling and raising two siblings then fine. I wish you and the new owners luck.

ditto ^^

I was confused when you said all 11 got homes, and they went in pairs... did one go to a single home? LOL

Very cute puppies !! More pics would be awesome! :D

What cute pups! Although I really have to disagree that Bowser looks like a Saint Bernard. I think that the people who said that may have thought a Landseer Newfoundland, Saints are NEVER black and white!! They are both going to be large pups when they grow up if they are both over 20 lbs at 9 weeks. You will have your hands full with them, good luck!

They are beautiful :D

I agree about the pair problem though... I really hope those people know what they are doing.

Again, agreeing with the "going in pairs" problem. Hopefully you informed all the new owners about this (possible) issue.
I must have missed who the parents are because I can't tell what the pups are supposed to be at all. I don't see Saint Bernard or Pit in either of them. Hopefully the mom is spayed and all the pups can be handled by their new owners.
They will definitely be big if they are 20+ lbs at 9 1/2 weeks of age. I'd say around 90 - 100 lbs full grown. I don't think either will look "intimidating" unless the burglar is afraid of 'big' dogs. LOL Good luck and may they grow up to be very loving, well behaved, well tempermented dogs!

You could get them started on lay, come and heel as well as leash training...IMO. They are old enough to be able to do more than just 'sit'. Have fun potty training.

They are both very cute! I just read through the old thread...I can't believe they have Lab/GSD in them, I can't see it, lol!! Do you have anymore pictures?? :D

And :yikes: at making them go in pairs! I have a sibling pair, Micki and Mini, and if I could do it all over again I wouldn't have gotten them both. Mine are just little dogs too, I couldn't imagine having two HUGE puppies at the same time!! Good luck with the pups, and I hope the new owners realized what they were getting themselves into!

The majority of people I know who HAD two dogs now have one because they bought littermates and could not handle two...especially from the same litter.

But, what is done is done. Hopefully you got phone numbers from everyone and made them agree that if they ever could not keep the puppies that they MUST be returned to you.

Glad they found great homes...

Oh, and you said you could have given them away at 6 weeks and you gave the last pair away a week ago... I really hope you kept them all until 8 weeks... A pair seperated from the litter before 8 weeks... ouch.

I just wish the people who spend time posting here would actually take the time to search the forum for more information too...
