Problem with the Katana is that it's top heavy. Not good if you're just learning (as going at slow speeds could result in a tip over when it's less stable).

But that doesn't mean it's not a good bike. My cousin has one and it's pretty nice.

Glass Onion, I wave to everyone when I ride with 2 exceptions- if I'm negotiating a curve or shifting. Otherwise, everyone gets a wave. I find it's mostly the sport bikers and hardcore Harley riders who don't wave back but nearly everyone does.

Novel, if you like that Harley, you should look at the Kawasaki Mean Streak or the Yamaha Warrior, both very similar bikes at a much lower cost.

We've been very happy with our Kawasaki. Though it's a different model it's very reliable and well designed. I looked up that HD, it's engine is under 1200cc. Both the bikes I mentioned are 1600+ cc. I thought all the HD's had that 1450cc engine in them which is why I listed a couple bigger bikes. The Yamaha VMax is about 1100cc and it's a 4 cylinder and will smoke pretty much anything that's not a sport bike, and it's about $11,000.

That's what I get for going with hype and looks. We have a Yamaha now, and the f-i-l has a Honda, both older bikes, but, sturdy. The Yamaha is a little top heavy, not balanced the greatest, hence the search.

My hair always gets braided when riding anything. When I'm at the dunes, I'm sporting the Pippi Longstockings (double braids) because they fit under my helmet easier. Horses only require the easy single braid.

I think I'm going to go down to the Suzuki dealer, maybe tomorrow. I'm not going to be able to afford anything for probably...5 years or so...but I like knowing what I fit on. And who knows, maybe I'll get stupidly lucky and win the lottery.

I dont' know what your financial situation is but a lot of times you can save a couple thousand by buying used. I browse Craigslist constantly and see some good motorcycles going for $1000-2500. Not cheap, but not expensive.

At a dealer its about $4k. Plus you really don't want your first bike to be new. It'll make you sick if you drop it.

But of course. But I can sit on a bunch of different bikes at a dealer and get a feel for what i should look for used. Plus my friend got a pretty good used bike at this dealership over the summer.

Do you ever notice while riding.... everyone else on a bike ALWAYS waves by giving some little finger signal...

I've seen hummer people do that too :p

Now this will blow all your minds... not only do we do it with our motorcycles... I'm an avid Jeep Wrangler driver and we do it there too! That's where the saying "It's a Jeep Thing..." comes from.

I like it, it's fun! Oh and no discrimination when on the bike for me either... If I see a fellow cyclist I give them the low wave!! It's almost like a secret club. ;)

Also Novel, NICE choice! Very striking... so you gunna add a side car to that and take a pupper or two to a show?? Ha ha ha! I've always wanted to try but don't know anyone with a side car to see if they would actually sit in one. Probably not a good idea but it would be funny though!

I used to have a Harley Sportster 1200. I'm 5'8" and it was a bit tall for me. I simply had it lowered about 2 inches.....

Any bike can be lowered by changing out the suspension.

Sorry if someone else mentioned this, I didn't read all the post in the thread...

When I used to manage a pet resort we had one couple that always put their dog in a side car. The dog wore a harness, and then was tethered front and back so he couldn't move too much. He also had goggles and looke dlike he enjoyed every second of it.

I've joked about getting a side car for Gunnar. He'd look good in a German army helmet with the spike on top and some goggles. :)
