Sometimes there is nothing you can do except totally ignore them.
My boyfriend's mom sent us a hysterical email about the "dangerous pit bull" we found as a stray and were taking care of. Aside from the fact that this dog was not a pit bull, she threw every pit bull stereotype in book at us. Said she couldn't sleep because she was convinced that the dog was going to "turn on us" and eat all three of us. It was one of the most ignorant things I've ever read. But, we just ignored her and all was well.
