I took the boys out tonight for a walk around the "block" (roughly 45 minutes). Rhino is great on leash, Bennie, the pup, is Ok, but has his moments. Usually only when he's distracted, which is what our walk was. One big giant distraction. We ran into not one, not two, but FIVE unleashed dogs, 3 of which had no owners in sight. Plus, 2 horses and a rabbit.

I think I had to pop my shoulder back into the socket at one point. LOL

Two words - leash work.

Heheh . . . tell me about it.

An idiot kid was jogging on the sidewalk and came up behind Kharma and me and actually almost shoved me out of his way (I'd already moved to the side, he just wanted to run in the middle of the sidewalk so the shrubbery wouldn't brush his tender hide  )

He ran a little faster after he'd passed us :rofl1:

That's a major pet peeve of mine, regardless of whether or not the dogs are with me.

The best tonight was a couple walking their intact male Weimeraner with no leash, down the middle of the road. He had a choke on, no tags. They weren't even carrying a leash. When Bennie gets all excited and starts crossing my path we stop, sit, re-group, and then keep going. When he saw me stop the dogs and put them into a sit to wait until him and his dog had passed, he grabbed the dog by the ring on the choker and gave me a dirty look, like I was ruining HIS fun or something. It was weird. Like people who have no intention of picking up their dog's poop until yours poops and you pull out a bag, then all of a sudden they're scrambling around for a bag, back peddling, "I forgot my bags, OH NOEZ!".

As soon as he was 15 feet past us, he let the dog off, which immediately turned around to follow us. He was literally screaming at his dog to get the dog to follow them, and normally I'll stop and let people get control of their dog, but I kept on walking. It annoys the crap out of me that I make sure my dogs aren't a nuisance to anyone, why should I hang around in a situation that is putting us at risk? I didn't want to sit there as large, intact, loose, unknown male is making a b-line to me and my dogs. Put your dog on a leash, or at least make sure it's reliable off leash. And don't expect the rest of the world to come to a grinding halt because you don't have control. Not my problem. /Rant

The rabbit thing was kinda funny. Rhino saw it but knew better than to take my arm off. Bennie was completely oblivious, so I was hoping we'd get by before he saw it, and right then two other loose dogs came charging, so he was busy looking at those dogs. Meanwhile I'm like "that's a BRAVE rabbit", standing there with 4 dogs all acting a little nutty. Well, it appeared that the two loose dogs were behind an invisible fence and stopped at the property line, which was obviously boring to Bennie, because BAM, he saw the rabbit and totally bolted in the other direction, which caught me off guard because I was still watching what the other dogs were doing. And of course poor Rhino was all "WTF Mate?". LOL

Dang, you have interesting walks! Most exciting thing we've ever encountered was a possum crossing the road about half a block ahead. I can really relate to the arm-out-of-socket thing; thought for a couple of minutes that I was going on a scenic tour of the neighbor's yard on my belly.

I just cannot imagine what would happen if we came across a rabbit. Or a raccoon. (Shudder) Or--oh, god!--what if one of the foxes showed up again one night?

That's just it, they're normally reeeeeally boring. Which is a good thing. I love going for a walk in the evening. We have red shouldered hawks around here, which are usually out hunting at that time. They're beautiful. It's cool out. You can hear lawn mowers and smell fresh cut grass. I love it.

But tonight. Man alive. :yikes: I was dripping sweat by the time I got home. LOL
