I'm not sure I've posted anything about Mort and Olive since I brought them home.

They're a pair of sugar gliders who I have had since May of last year. I was told Mort was a boy, thus the name Mort... well, it turns out Mort is a girl :p I've had her since she was ~4 months old.

I adopted Olive right afterwards, and she was a ~13 month old. She was pretty neglected, lived in a tiny bird cage, and was fed only carrots and cat food. She's still shy even after being handled daily for the past year.

They love each other, though. They bonded very quickly and are adorable together. They sleep curled up in their fleece pouch.

Anyway... I was messing with their cage today and they woke up because of it. I figured I'd get some photos since I could use the natural lighting of the room.

She's very sweet and always inquisitive.

Sooooooooo cute!

Okay, so questions. I ran into a guy selling them at a pet festival once (he was like a dealer from Florida or something). He pitched them as this cuddly wonder pet that would get along with cats and dogs, wouldn't pee all over you, and was nice and quiet. Dis-spell all these myths please, so I do not crave such cute critters. (Pretty sure Lucy would want to play a little too much to ever seriously entertain it, but dear heavens they are adorable)

Total myths. I know of the seller (they are quite popular) "Perfect Pocket Pets" and there is plenty of online literature on them being frauds/selling sick joeys

- Their diets are VERY complicated (not single pelleted food)
- They do pee/poo on people
- They are LOUD (like barks, chatters etc..)
- Their cages are pretty big
- They DO NOT use heat rocks
- It is largely frowned upon to introduce them to dogs/cats
- Their cages/areas tend to smell. Bad.

Problem solved, thank you! Jessie, just keep posting more pictures, that will fulfill my sugar glider needs :D

Haha!

Mine don't smell, but I also clean their cage every couple of days. I use pee pads as liners and replace them often. I also hose off their cage every 2 weeks, and change their bedding on a weekly basis.

They actually don't pee and poop often. They go about 10 minutes after waking up, and then they're good! I make sure they go in their cage before I take them out.

Other than that, Fran nailed it. Their diet is somewhat challenging- I make a batch of their food once a month and then freeze it. I feed that along with fresh fruits and veggies nightly.

They can be loud, but it's only for short bursts. I have a 2 story house and they're in our den, so I can't really hear them in bed! They're noctournal and run on their wheel all night long. Thankfully, their wheel is quiet! They do bark and sound like dogs, and they "crab" when angry or bothered.
