Claire McCaskill has recently been in the news because of her new political campaign ad featuring Michael J. Fox (in support of stem cell research.)
I hope all Missouri residents who are dog-lovers will vote for Claire! She is a friend to the cause of shutting down puppy mills. Here is a letter from the Kansas City Star regarding Claire's stance on puppy mills:
Friend to animals
State Auditor Claire McCaskill is a true friend to animals. Voters in Missouri who care about animal welfare should support her bid for election to the U.S. Senate.
In 2004, as state auditor, McCaskill took a strong stance against animal cruelty when she released a stinging assessment of Missouri’s implementation of laws to protect puppies in the state’s commercial breeding facilities, often known as “puppy mills.” McCaskill said the state routinely performed hasty inspections of these operations and failed to punish breeders for practices that could endanger pets.
As Jackson County prosecutor, McCaskill recognized that in homes where there was domestic violence, there was also often violence directed at animals. She saw this well-established link and believes we need strong laws to protect animals and people from cruelty.
Humane Society Legislative Fund urges Missouri’s voters to elect Claire McCaskill to the U.S. Senate on Nov. 7.

I live in southeast kansas about an hour from Missouri. I had lived in MO for a few years (near Joplin) when I was in high school and just starting college. I am no longer a Mssouri resident, but I will encourage my mom and friends who still live there to vote!! As someone who has lived in the state and seen that Missouri is often cited as the worst state for puppy mills, I hope that Claire can get some results on this issue. I hope you will vote!
