Stoli's an American Bulldog though, right? I believe they're talking about British Bulldogs. Totally different dogs.

I have a Chihuahua so I'm happy to recommend them, but I was interested in getting a Min Pin when I was a teen and so I love them too. I think ulitmately it's up to you.
Find people who own them and interact with them...see which one you fall in love with. :) They'll choose you. Or if you can't choose, why not get one of each? ;)

Cass. Your Chis are to die for! They are so cute!!!!! I wanted a Chi. I was all set to fork out the huge sums of cash for a show quality pup. Then Lilly chose me. She has cost me more in vets bills than the pup would have cost but I wouldn't change her for the world!

I will just say german pinsher lol !!!
I;m joking I really not lover of any one ...
each one have their own taste ... but I feel like chihuahuas need to be treat like child and that bother me , becuas ethey are dogs !!!!
I know that not all are like that , but is the caracteristic of this breed , like a lot more they need to be treat like kings =OP
But I know very well that my dog fav breeds aren't always love by everyone and I respect everyone taste =OP
I have an aunt and cousin fanatic of chihuahua , and their chihuahua IK , hate every stranger , apart me ... so I can't be so mean against chihuahuas
It's like my dad and mom who are devoted of the german sheaperd ...
I just like stubborn , active and kind ( even not at the extreme ).

I work around both breeds and prefer the minpin (even though I had a minpin years ago and really didn't like him very much).

I find chihuahuas to have extremeties in temperment. They all seem to be very insecure, and on one hand will show it with aggression, or on the other hand with shyness. The only dog that has ever tried to viciously maul me was a chihuahua. I am in fact babysitting a chihuahua right now. He is two years old and in a matter of two days has already managed to pee and poo on nearly every inch of floor in this house. Most are very difficult to housebreak. We end up having to muzzle alot of the chis that come in to get groomed and have to be very careful taking them out of their crates or they will try to attack you. The chis I know bark at any little noise. The one I'm babysitting is driving me nuts, barking. He spent from around midnight until 7 in the morning barking nonstop. On the other hand, chis have alot of personality and can be fun little dogs. They are very affectionate and loving to those they know.

Minpins on the other hand tend to be scared of their own shadow. The one I had wouldn't let me come near him. He would fear-bite anyone he didn't know who tried to touch him. The ones that come in to be groomed stand there and let you do anything you want to them (even the puppies) but they shiver an shake all over the entire time, and some will scream if you startle them or touch them the wrong way. They are also alerters. My minpin was not hyper at all, but he was constantly in motion, usually because he was just so anxious. Any time he was forced to sit still he shook. They can be very sweet dogs though, affectionate and loving.

Just thought I'd put in my two cents here since I have the best of both worlds, I have a Chi/Mini Pin mix and she is the sweetest little thing. I would actually recommend going to your local shelter or checking petfinder.com for a chihuahua mix or mini-pin mix.

What I've found with my dog is that she ended up with a great personality and a lot of the cute features from both breeds. She has the Chi body, but Mini Pin face and ears. At any rate, I think that everyone is right in terms of the training depeding on who is doing it and how it's being done. You might also consider a shelter or rescue dog because I've seen more and more that these organizations are crate training and sometimes even house training these dogs before adopting them out.

Good luck!

I have a MinPin, Ralph. He's hyper only if he's not exercised enough. I have to briskly walk him a half hour in the morning and an hour at night. If I do that he sleeps on the bed until I put him in his bed. So be prepared to be the fittest you have ever been.

Seperation anxiety: don't give in to the jumping and barking and whining. They do get it after a while. But they are stubborn.

Housetraining: They hate the cold and will not go outside in the rain. Mine is double trained. He uses a wee pad if he can't go out. But! That is with me being vigilent about him being on "empty" when not in his area (the kitchen).

Be prepared to be a "drill sargent" with a MinPin. Or that dog will drive you insane.

Awww, do you have a pic of your min pin/chi mix? I have one. She is on the far left in my signature (8 weeks old). She has more of the min pin personality. Hyper and playfull!! Her mom was pure min pin, and the father was pure chi.

My MinPin is amazingly a couch potato during the evenings...but I put him through a fast mile with no potty break...uphill. He gets to potty, check his P-Mail, check out the other dogs in the neighborhood and then a fast one back home. And when I say fast, he's not quite breaking into a gallop. He starts out pretty fresh and tries to pull but by the time we get home he's starting to fall behind a bit. It's dinner and then couch time.

He has plenty of good things to chew on. He hates Kongs and Nylabones, but makes up for it in loving to chew knuckle bones large enough for a Rottie.

He also knows not to bug. I don't put up with it. Quiet, calm dogs get all my attention.

So how a dog is depends on how you deal with the breed's tendancies.

Hi, I'm considering the purchase of a puppy, and I've narrowed it down to two breeds, Min pins, and chihuahua's. I've researched both breeds extensively, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on which dog would make a better companion in an apartment setting, most responsive to training, more intelligent and so on.

I've also had experience with larger dogs, a Dalmation and a Rottie, and was wondering if anyone could give me any insight on any drastic differences between large and small dogs.

Thankies.
I'm a owner of 3 Chihuahuas and 1 Chihuahua min Pin mix. And the Chi was Much easier to house train! I read that they do take time to house break.I can tell alot of the Min Pin trait comes out in my Mix she is a Chewing little Machine! The Chis did not chew near as much but I guess that is part of the Min Pins Hound back ground because Hounds love to Chew. Daushounds and italian greyhounds were breed years ago to make the Min Pin. and I guess the Black and red color of the Daushound stuck with the min Pin. I love all my Babies but Min pins do take more time training then Chihuahuas.

ok i defiantly will chime in here i have a min pin he is young so under a years experience but enough to know what i am talking about here.
DIRTY is not a word i would use when dealing with a min pin and am a bit insulted to tell you the truth. now that being said min pins are known for being a bit stubborn when it comes to house training. argo is almost a year old and we are still working on this issue. some are better then others but it is what it is but dirty is not it. i think you better learn more about the breed before spewing crap like that.
now moving along i think its also safe to say min pins are terriers at heart despite it size i have never owned a chi but i think that would be a main difference right there. i am a bit biased but min pins are so sweet they love to cuddle in fact mine is sleeping on my lap as we speak. i can say they live to cuddle they love laying under blankets and are very often a one person dog. argo can be hyper but we have worked at it alot and he is not to bad but it took a lot of work on my part.
min pins usually are on a mission though not sure about chi s perhaps they are laid back but whatever breed you get you have to work and shape the dog you want thru patience and training. so yeah my vote is for a pin head and yes i would get another one if i were looking for another toy dog. i got argo because a friend had to move and well she did not realize what she was getting into she gave him to me so i am a accidental pin head owner never thought i would get one lol in fact i was looking into a Boerboel but i don't regret it a bit they grow on you.
