I have read that male and male do fine, male and female do fine, but you usually have more problems with 2 females. I have no idea how true this is.
IME boys together are much more easy to manage. I have had both females and males at the same time and as long as the boys are seperated while I am gone all is well. The occasional attitude can be calmed down pretty quickly in most cases.
Females.....that's another matter, at least with my breed. Some just ain't going for another Queen around (like mine). I have two females right now that cannot even be aloud to see each other. Not fun!

I also wanted to add that I agree with OC. That is the way I introduce my dogs to new rescues and it works 99% of the time.

Good luck, I really hope you get him.

I'm jealous of the idea of you getting a Terv. I'm a little worried about Charlie's territorial-ness. I may be totally off base here but I'd work on this more before bringing in another dog, especially one that could be gun shy because of a previous attack. As an owner of a dog who CAN be a resource guarder, I'd be very careful of this with a new dog. It can get REALLY ugly. Another person I hope chimes in is Heartdogs. JMHO I'd start using some NILIF now before any new dog comes in the house.

Is it possible you meet the Terv a few times before you bring him to your house? If Charlie gets to know him, maybe he'll be more accepting.

Also, instead of putting Charlie in your house or yard and bringing the new dog in, I'd meet up with doggy #2 down the street and then walk them back to your house at the same time.
