We just spent time at the vet last night and then a couple of hours at the emergency vet with Menchi today.

We are trying to sort out what exactly is going on with her...as yesterday's visit was due to a troubled tummy and then the emergency visit today was courtesy of pain in her rear area... Currently think the two are unrelated separate incidents.

The Monkey is not feeling any pain at them moment due to being doped up pretty good for her x-rays (which looked beautiful...but the vet is having their surgeon double check them in the morning).

I figure some vibes might be helpful too!

I told her...

She is currently too high on pain meds to care ;)

She had morphine at the vets for her x-ray and now she is getting tramadol... Poor thing is so out of it currently.

All the vibes for Menchi! And Astro sounds out a sympathetic snort/whale call, as a Pei-face who recently had an E-vet visit of his own.

Thanks you guys :)

A little update...

She ate some food before bed last night and took her pain meds. This morning she was much more alert. She is still a bit more subdued that normal, but that could be because the Tramadol has a sedative effect. The big thing is that she is moving normally and has an interest in food and in her surroundings.

No lure coursing for us this weekend...instead we are on orders to rest.

Menchi is a pei right? Could it be shar pei fever?

I know my grandparents had a vet that insisted it was not just the one gene and it could run in any dog. They had one dog that was miserable at times. Abdominal pain on and off, joint pain. Another one it only happened maybe three times in fifteen years? So it kind of made sense but doesn't line up with all the reading I did.

Sending good thoughts!

Once we noticed the pain and the lameness we immediately checked for other symptoms of the fever syndrome. Luckily neither the vets or we feel that it was a fever episode as her temperature remained completely normal. She also did not show any of the typical swelling at the joints that most pei experience when fevering.

Her litter sister fevers on occasion, but luckily so far Menchi has been spared that particular ordeal.

We are always keeping a careful eye out for those symptoms of inflammation and fevers though :)

Oh noes...sad peis!

How did he land himself at the dreaded e-vet?
By spewing bloody diarrhea everywhere, poor dude had literally no bowel control :( He's fine now, many vet visits and pills later...best they could tell he ate something that just REALLY irritated his intestinal tract. Dunno how, the dog is on lockdown (crated when I'm not home, supervised heavily when I am), but he's good to go now.

How is miss Menchi doing?

Yikes, poor Astro. Glad he is all better... nothing good ever came from runny, bloody, poo.

Menchi is much better. She had her vet recheck yesterday and she also had a chiro adjustment and a bit of acupuncture just to make sure she we were doing all we can to help her mend.
