Schnapps, my Giant Schnauzer started limping on one paw yesterday. At first mildly but now a bit worse today.

She is in no pain as far as I can see, and I could not find anything either on thw paw, leg or lodged between her toes (that happened before). Squeezing her paw and leg all the way up and down, produced no sign that it hurt her (so I guess not broken).

My guess is that she may have jumped awkwardly or something and perhaps strained a muscle.

I'll keep an eye on her this weekend and see if it gets worse or better.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just keep her calm, make sure she doesn't get any vigrous exercise. My girls have pulled muscles before, very rarely, but it's happened once or twice. I just make sure they don't get all hyper and run around, and I usually bring them on short walks or drop the walks for five to seven days.

Carey also did the same thing once, we couldn't find anything wrong with hers either, we gave her a couple of days before we were going to the vet (as Gaddy suggested) and then she just stopped. My Smokey did it once too, but for very short time. I finally figured maybe his was asleep :D Hope Schnapps quits worrying you soon.

Tippy pulled a muscle around a week and a half ago. I didn't exercise her for a few days, and made sure she spent most of her time resting (which she hated). It got better within about a day or two, but I kept her quiet for a few days afterwards just to make sure. It was the day before we had veterinary appointments scheduled! She was fine and rushed in and out of the clinic, LOL.

If you can get Schnapps to cooperate, treat it like you would your own strain - alternate cold and heat. Let us hear how he's doing.

You do realize he's going to milk this for everything he can get out of it, don't you? :D

Well I shaved her paws a bit today to get abetter look under all that fur, but still nothing. Doesn't seem to bother her in any way, so we'll skip a walk for the next two days and see what happens.

Thanks for all your posts!
