Here's what the owner said happened; his dog broke his collar, and was only loose for a couple minutes. The elderly woman saw the dog....started running...fell (which is how I believe she broke her wrists..NOT the dog!) and started kicking. The dog did then give her a bite......but in total fairness, altho I'm sure it wasn't pleasant to the woman, it wasn't a bad bite. I think the dog got scared with all the screaming...and did react with a nip. We all know that IF that dog was aggresive, she would have had a 'REAL' bite! But....camera cuts to the poor, elderly, frail woman...with casts on both wrists....wailing how 'mean' that dog is...' a menace to the neighborhood...blah,blah,blah' Of COURSE they portrayed the event as if this little woman stepped out her door and was horribly attacked by a PITBULL! Meanwhile...back to the owner's house, where the dog is happily playing with the couple's baby. My hubby and I look at each other and say....'yeah, real mean dog there....NOT' Just another case where the media LOVES to hype this sort of crap. What is really sad....no matter how much we all protest....they still seem to THRIVE on these stories. There will be a hearing to see if the owner has to destroy the dog. I know I was angry with the owner at first......but now it doesn't seem like he was being totally irresponsible. I know it's our responsibility to control our dogs at all times, but this was something that happened in a matter of a couple minutes. It was unfortunate for all.........but my whole point to this rant is this.....that same bite could have been from a teacup poodle, and it would have NEVER been a news story. thanks....needed to vent that
