How exciting! I want one!!! No, I don't want another puppy, but I've been watching this story so closely that I feel a little bond with them all, lol.

also, make preparations NOW for beginning to feed the puppies. Most puppies are ready for gruel between 3 and 4 weeks of age. That will be here before you know it.

Decide what you are going to use, and have it all ready.

Now is also time, if you have not already, to get your sales contracts in order, make sure you have a good spay/neuter clause, contact your potential homes, and get the ball rolling on final selection of new homes, if you have not already done so.

All great information. I feel sooo attached to these little ones and just want to cuddle one. I have never seen a newborn pup before. Glad the worst is over, and I know you will do a wonderful job bringing them up and getting them ready for their new homes.

Pat yourself on the back....GREAT JOB! :D

OK guys, first, lemmie explain, the stupid pics didnt come out, I only got a few of them. But I bought a new camera that lets you see the pic as you take it, and delete if necessary, but these should hold you over. There are Pregnant Dixie pics, beginning labor pics and 2 puppy pics.

Note:Not skin allergies-blown coat!

I would seriously work on getting her out of that cage. The danger of crushing puppies is way too high to leave them in there.

The pups are due in 8 days. Do any of you have any last bits of advice to give me about whelping??I'd surely appreciate it right about now. I am so nervous,I am starting to doubt myself.
*giggles nervously and laughs*

The female that whelped the puppies that Im getting did everything herself. the owner didnt know ANYTHING!

But the puppies are still gorgeous.

*Stands over mother and puppies and dares anyone to say anything negative*

Yep, and some women give birth alone in their house too. But guess what, if something goes wrong, nobody will be there to help and they might just die.

Match1girl at least is responsible and wanted to make sure she knew what to do if problems happened.

The vet checked the puppies and declared them to be healthy! He gave me alot of the same advice Red did.

By the way Red, thenk you sooo much. Your advice was great and very helpful. I did doubt myself, but after you stepped up to assist I felt much better and confident. You to grammy, thanks to everyone who helped, gave words of wisdon, experience, and encouragment. You guys deserve whatever wonderful life throws your way.

The vet gave Dixie the shot-ocu? to clean her out. he also gave her Osteo-Form, a calcium supplement, and a vitamin for her coat, called 3V Caps by Skin Formula. He told me that she may have already blown her coat, but it is going to get worse?! Grrreeeeaaattttt!(sarcastically)

I will post more pics as I get them. Just wanted to check in and let everyone know that mom and babies are doing just fine, and I hope it stays that way.Mom is hungry again, and drinking again. Good sign.

I also wanted to tell those that helped and prayed, thank you-

I may be slow, but what did doggish obsession mean by that post??

Whooo!!! Puppieeeees!!! This is just the good news I needed after a terrible day at work. I'm so glad mom and pups came through it ok and 8?! Wow!! That's going to be a ton of fun work in a few weeks. :D So glad to hear they all made it as well!

I think Doggish was just looking for a related thread to post that without thought to how it might fit in or detract from Dixie's well-earned moment in the spotlight.

Another thing, Mach.

Keep taking her temp.

Infections post whelping can be deadly to the bitch and to the puppies. It can cause toxic milk.

Take her temp twice a day, and if it goes above 102, get to the vet immediately.

You should also examine each mammary gland twice per day. Mastitis can set in quickly, and it can escalate so fast that glands can rupture. If you find any breast that is hot and hard, get to the vet.

If you notice any puppy who is crying, who has any sort of greenish or foamy stool, remove ALL puppies from nursing her, and get to the vet.

You also really need to get a GOOD and ACCURATE scale, and weigh those puppies daily. You might see a small loss the first day, but they should catch up and start gaining no later than day 3.

If you do not get her and the puppies out of that cage, you will lose puppies to crushing. Guaranteed. Make her use the box. Period.
