I was at Costco yesterday, and was looking at the ENORMOUS bags of dog food there... 40lbs bags for $15.99 of Kirkland brand (costco brand) super premium kibble... The ingredients actually looked like it was of higher quality than the "purina" type brands....

And the price is absolutely amazing... 40lbs would feed my guy for about a year! Has anyone fed the Kirkland stuff? I'm just curious.

For someone on a tight budget who really can't afford the super premium foods like Evo, Kirkland is an excellent choice. It is much better than Science Diet, Pedigree, Iams, Eukanuba, or other supermarket brands.

Kirkland Signature - Chicken, Rice & Vegetables Formula

Ingredients:
Chicken, chicken meal, whole grain brown rice, cracked pearled barley, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and Vitamin E), egg product, beet pulp, potatoes, fishmeal, flaxseed, natural flavor, brewers dried yeast, millet, carrots, peas, kelp, apples, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, potassium chloride, salt, choline chloride, rosemary extract, parsley flake, dried chicory root, glucosamine hydrochloride, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, chondroitin sulfate, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, menadione sodium bisulfite (source of vitamin K activity), riboflavin, vitamin D supplement, folic acid

Lizzie,

Kirkland Signature is a Costco brand, so they most likely have the dog food. It would definitely be an improvement from Purina ONE.

Toaster,

You would spend more for a 40lb bag of food that you wouldn't use than you currently spend for your small bags of Innova. You wouldn't be saving very much money!

I feed kirkland signatures from cosco. I know it isn't the best, but you should see what I fed before I found this site. :D

My dogs all do great on it, and no more itching for Rocket, she scratched alot before the switch many months ago. And cleaning up the dog poo is greatly reduced. :)
I would like to say after the switch they did have the runs for several days....but cleared up with no more problems.

I buy 8 bags at a time.........the bag's fresh date lasts a good while and has a use by date on the bag so you should be able to guess if any would be wasted. I keep the bags cool and dry and 8 bags lasts me about 3-4 months depending on what other dogs I feed. ;) And how much I supplement with people food or raw food.

I wasn't really trying to imply that I was thinking of switching to it, but wanted opinions of it. I read the igredients of the Signature line and it seemed like a better choice than the other main stream / grocery store brands - and the talk of budget came up several times in another thread, so I wanted to ask about the Kirkland.... At $16/40lbs with decent ingredients - Can't really beat that!?

As for Stogie, I'm hesitant to buy the 13 or 16lbs bag of food for him! He's eating less than 1 cup per day, so a 40lbs bag of food for him would be ............. a joke! :D

I feed the Kirkland to my six dogs and two cats. They do very well on it.
Oh, and the Costco near me now has the puppy food and the small adult food in the 20lb. bags for about $9.00
I think some people see the price and think "bad food". That is like seeing the expensive crap and saying "good food"
I think you know what I mean. Hope this helps.

The Costco Kirkland food is made by Diamond, and is the same formula as the Diamond dog food, or so I've been told. Diamond is a good quality food. I feed Kirkland Super Premium to my Belgians - they love it, their coats and teeth are in great shape, eyes are bright, energy level is high.

I have a friend with two Dachsie's and a Dobe, and they did not do too well on it. Again, I think it depends on the dogs.

The diamond dog food like sold at tractor supply is not the same formula as kirkland signature's food. Although it is all made by diamond. :)

Diamond manufactures many different brands. The ones I know of that they market for themselves (i.e. not as contract manufacturer) are:

Diamond and the new "Diamond Naturals"
Chicken Soup
Professional
Premium Edge
Nutra Nuggets
Nutra Gold
Country Value

I buy Kirkland's cat food for my kitties. :) It's much, much cheaper than Natural Balance (which is what they were on before) and lasts much MUCH longer.

Yes, that list is long outdated.
And you are right, there have been a couple changes in the food ingredients since you have updated......they have taken the menodione out too!!
(I think I have already asked you at one point about the changes)...:)

Here are the new ingredients listed on the new bags......
(Sorry only a picture I used when asking Mordy about it)
It's the Chicken & Rice.....

My dogs are fed Kirkland Signature dog food. 4 cups of dry food and a 1/2 can of wet food a day. My dogs love it. I know its not the best but its what we can afford and its great for the dogs.
