Anyone have any good tips to keep a 5 month old doberman off of the couch? After 3 months of us pulling her off I'm sure she knows she's not supposed to be up there but I think she also realizes jumping on it will get our attention.

Does she have a soft cushion of her own to lay on? Carpet just isn't enough and some dog beds are quite lacking too. When we go over to my Mom's she has a beanbag chair that is Victor's and he knows that is his place. With his knobby leg bones, to lay on the floor would be painful for him, he flops around and cannot get comfortable, not to mention that at this time of the year the floor gets pretty chilly.

They do have scat mats..my friend Kelly uses hers to keep dogs off of what she doen'st want them on, I just show them their place, and they learn to go there instead. Some people use mousetraps turned upside down, but that seems too risky to me.
I think if u give her a comfortable spot and let her know persistantly that she is to be there and not the couch she will stop jumping up. A squirt gun works great too, or some rocks in a can that you shake, what ever gets her attention.

We had a sofa that was off limits to my daughters Rott. We had a chair that was her to lay on. But what was funny was when she knew we was busy doing something, once in awhile we'd just happen to walk in the family room to find her laying on the sofa. She'd tilt her head back and give this look of innocence, it was the funniest thing. Of course I'd tell her no, get off and go sit in your own chair, she would. But it was like a kid trying to be sneaky.

She has a big pillow that she generally sits/sleeps on in the living room but often she'll just hop right up onto the couch. Half the time she'll get off when we tell her 'off', the other half we have to pull her off. It seems she knows she shouldn't be up there but thinks its worth the risk...
