Keely will be the death of me, I swear it.

So occasionally we tether the dogs outside on nice days (not for hours at a time, but for like 30 minute intervals) . *I* always do a check of the yard before I put them out. I came home from work and keely was outside. She looked odd, even from my car. When I approached her she wasn't excited like she normally gets, and she was HUGE... her stomach was grossly large.
Justin had tethered her close to our shed and there was a bag of garbage he didn't remember was there behind the shed. Which contained apparently, left over Kentucky fried chicken from over a week ago. She ate Everything she could manage to stick into her.

she couldn't move, her stomach was so large, It felt like it would literally burst. I didn't know what to do , I panicked so I figured I would induce vomiting. we didn't have any peroxide so I had to drive to my mother in laws. I drove like a madman. I swear, emergency blinkers and everything. I wouldn't have minded as much but she was very obviously uncomfortable. When I got back I realized I hadn't done this before and I was horrified I would do something wrong.

I poured it down her throat and NOTHING happened. So then I FREAKED out yet again because I had just poured PEROXIDE down my dogs throat and it wasn't coming back up and I thought she was going to die. No joke guys.

Eventually she started puking and I will tell you , I didn't realize how much a 10 lb dog could force into themselves . There were chicken bones that were almost full sized , and sharded.

She's still a little off but I guess she probably still feels a little sick from the peroxide? I know she emptied her stomach because after about the 6th time her vomited it was just bile.

I know I'm rambling , but I'm still really freaked out. And I now realize I would be NO GOOD in an emergency situation. I just panicked.

Do you think I did the right thing guys? I'm worried now that I should have just let it be.

What would you have done in that situation?

I really do not know what I would do in a really big life or death situation. now I am afraid if something really really big happens one of the dogs will die when I could have saved them if I weren't so panicky

UGH, scary! I'm so glad all is okay.

I get like this too though. I tend to over-react to things that I probably shouldn't and probably make it out to be worse than it is.

I've always heard you're not supposed to induce vomiting if bones, etc, were swallowed because they could get stuck coming back up? Not sure how true this is.

But there was one time when Jackson got stung by something outside, never knew what, but he was freaking out, spazzing, running around the house, and I was all OMG because I had never seen him like that before, so I decide to give him benadryl because I had read you could do that for allergic reactions, so I quickly asked my step-dad for a benadryl pill and looked up dosage online and split it and gave it to him real quick. THEN I read the package and it was the kind of benadryl that had like... everything in it. Decongestent, etc, lol. So I called ER vet and they told me that yeah that's not good, but with the small amount it was, it probably would be okay, and I asked if I should induce vomiting ... they said I could etc, ANYWAY so then I pour the peroxide down his throat and he pukes 3 times and I found the pill but basically I turned a REALLY SIMPLE thing into something WAY more complicated, lOL... I am sure he would've been fine after the sting but I was freaked because my dads dog got stung last year and ended up not being able to breathe and swelled up like a chipmunk, so I was super paranoid.

Live and learn. I've gotten a lot calmer than I used to be!

My grandmother's Toy Poodle (about 13 pounds) looked like that when she raided the garbage and ate about 3-4 pounds of left over turkey breast I had thrown out. I gave her a couple of charcoal biscuits to help relieve the gaspains she was having and just kept an eye on her. By the next morning she was fine.

I don't think it hurt to make Keely vomit, tho.

When Argon was alive he once ate 6 lbs of half frozen chicken quarters out of the 10 lb bag. I really think he would have kept going if I hadn't come home. He played innocent but that 22 lb dog looked like a bloated tick when I got there. Stupid thing never so much as farted.
