Wow! So no mites after all, huh??? Very cool! Congrats!

Yes, I'm so glad you are going through with the allergy tests. Cortisone will mask the problems, but not cure them, and in the long run it's really not good for his immune system. But he needs relief right now, so I'm glad you are doing it. Did the vet recommend baths to help his skin heal?

What food does he eat if you don't mind me asking?

We are just now switching him to Innova from California Natural.

The vet (this one we had never seen before) I believe was very intimidated by our knowledge. We went in, knew exactly what we wanted and made our own decisions, I didn't feel that she is used to that, lol.

So we ended up speaking with one of the vet techs who does know us personally and Buddy's history... he recommended the shot for now, we'll go back for a re-check in two weeks and we'll see how Buddy is. Late this month or early next month we will be doing the allergy test to see what exactly is causing his severe reactions and we'll go from there. :)

They didn't recommend any bathing... do you recommend something for it? Or does anyone for that matter? His skin and coat is in awful shape..

Is his skin dry? If so, could you use a shampoo that is made for dry skin, like an oatmeal type shampoo? Or a very natural and easy on the skin shampoo?

For general dry skin, I would use Oatmeal. But, when Hudson had a bad all-over-his-body skin infection was when the vet put him on Pyoben shampoo. He was getting 3 baths a week with that stuff. I believe it helped him. It is especially for dogs with skin infections. You can get it online from lots of sources. I gave Hudson vigorous massages with that stuff and kept in on him for 10 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
