I have an interview for a job at a dog daycare, but haven't the slightest clue as to what would be appropriate to wear! I don't want to dress fancy and have them think I always wear such clothes and would take offence to getting dirty working with dogs. And of course I can't dress in my normal clothes, as that would be too casual. I've only ever been to one other interview before, and it was easy to dress for that one as it was for a sales rep. position.

Would a pair of black dress pants and a nice shirt/blouse be good? I can't think of what else I could possibly wear.

Well, it's a doggy daycare so you'll be getting MESSY on a daily basis. Covered in hair at a minimum.

What you've described would be good, but I'd do non-black pants if you have them. They don't have to be too tailored.

In this type of situation you *might* even be able to get away with a jean, if they're a nice, dressier pair. No rips/fading, and a dark wash.

I think that would be perfect. You still want to look professional and presentable. ;)

When I went on an interview at a vet's clinic, I wore a pair of dark blue jeans, with black heels, and a light blue button down top with my hair in a pony tail. I got the job.

I'd concentrate on your top more than the pants . Cords or nice jeans would be fine . Wearing a smile is much more important , and a firm hand shake !

Thanks you guys!

I hope it goes well -- I am so sick of being unemployed. The person who is interviewing me sounded super nice on the phone, so that's good. Here's hoping I answer all of her questions well though!

When I went in for my dog daycare interview, I wore jeans, flats, and a nice blouse. My old boss (er, interviewer at the time) was appalled to say the least. "There's no way you'll be working here in that. Runners and old long sleeve shirts next time."

I got the job, but certainly never dressed up again.

That's not to say you shouldn't look nice. It could be that my old boss was just different from most other people. Actually I'm greatly leaning in that direction.

Black pants and a nice shirt should do fine. Is it a working interview? If so, you might want to carefully select an outfit that won't impair your performance. My shirt didn't have sleeves and I got clawed by a group of 40 dogs.

I was wondering about this as well. If there is any chance you'll actually be spending time IN the daycare, you'll want to be more practical than dressy.

^^^ I wonder if maybe brining a change of clothes might be a good idea? If you have a nice but large purse that matches your outfit I'm sure you can fit them in there. (The joy of woman's purses! you'd be surprised the amount of things I can fit in mine!!!! LOL)

I worked at two separate dog daycares and to both interviews I wore blue jeans and a sweater. Actually had to go out and buy the jeans since I don't wear them. Got both jobs.

For the first one I did not go out into the daycare area until I was actually hired, but the second one about fifteen minutes into the interview I went in with the dogs.

Good luck. :)

Thanks a lot, guys! Now I'm all confused again, haha.

So instead of my blouse that I was going to wear, would just a nice T-shirt be better? I have no idea if I'll be spending any time with the dogs tomorrow or not. She didn't say what we'd be doing. I do have a pair of dark jeans, but they're not dressy/professional looking I don't think. This is hard. I don't want to look underdressed, but it sounds like it may be worse to look over dressed.

Could you wear the dressy pants and blouse and bring along less nice clothes? Let her know at the beginning that you did bring some in case you were working with the dogs, that way she knows that you don't plan to dress nice every day and at the same time you look more professional...

that's my thought too... that's why I mentioned bringing a long a nice(but big) purse.
