Workers were here, left the gate open, you would think people would learn to check the gate after people have been here but my mom looked out the window and saw Jack strolling around my neighbors lawn and we FREAKED OUT! I was in my apartment and heard my dad upstairs running, I just new something was not right so I ran up and he yelled, "Jacks Out."

I ran out and there is Jack running and my heart just sank to my stomach and I swear that is the absolute worst feeling you can describe. Nothing is worse! So I'm running and running and she is just not stopping for anything and I'm screaming at people to help me get her. Because she would not come to us because she thinks it's a chasing game. Finally this lady herd me and walked over to Jack. I said, "Pick her up." And finally she picked Jack up and handed her to me. I gave that lady the biggest hug. She saved my dogs life and if it wasn't for her Jack may not be with us now. I couldn't thank her enough. I think she did know by how grateful I was though.

My question is how do I train her to come back. They are 6 years old and I should have tarined them a LONG time ago, my mistake. They are microchipped but still. I have never been so scard in all my life. This was the worst possible things that could ever happen to me. Can I change this? Can I train her to come back when called? If so how and where do I start?

I never want this to happen again. You have to know Jack, she is rough and tough, or so she thinks but she also has an EXTREMELY stubborn side. Rocky is better at listening. Jack, well Jack does what Jack wants and talks back.

I jusy never want this to happen again. My dad should have been more careful, I was so mad at him for not cheking because he can be careless that way and does not think sometimes.

^^ That and I would be making a strong, angry phone call to the company. You go through a gate, you leave it like you found it. CLOSED!

Well I think I could get her into some kind of obedience classes. I have to check my funds, Rocky’s eye problems and vet trips are taking a toll on my funds big time. But I will do that for sure, it may just take a bit of time to save up. There expensive but her safety comes first. Oh I have complained to that company. We got a discount, not that it makes up for it. If I would have lost her I would have been devastated, they would not have a clue what I would have had to go threw. I would be devastated if I didn’t get her back. I just want her to come when I call her but she is so darn stubborn.

Do you make coming to you worth more than running away? Like paying her lots of really high value treats instead of playing 'catch me if you can'? Go check out the Emergency Recall in the Training section - I'm working on that with my puppy, who has a really good recall but I want the insurance of that extra command.

I try to make it worth coming to me. Maybe I should do that with treats. I will check out the recall training for sure. We need to get them trained to come back so this does not happen again.
