It's getting colder... when to take out the doggy sweaters

Hey everyone!

My doggy had trouble with the cold last winter so this winter I made sure I was prepared. I bought her the cutest pink turtleneck sweater - but now I'm wondering when I should have her wear it. It's 40 degrees here (feels like a lot colder) and I want to go for a 30 min walk. I'm definitely going to wear a sweater AND a jacket.

What temperature or time of year do you put a coat on your doggy? (assuming they need one)

Wrigley does not wear a coat anymore (he is 16lbs and hates them!) Honey who is 6lbs MUST wear a coat--she shivers like a crazy girl if not. I started putting on her fleece around 40 degrees and now her actual coat around 30 and below.

when they act cold?

i got home from work the other day and it was 63 degrees in my house and luce was shivering and her teeth were chattering, so she's been wearing her fleece since then.

Milo usually wears it once it gets down to about freezing...he's 20 pounds and he's got a bit of hair but it's pretty thin. He seems to be tolerating more cold this year than last year.

I put on Lucy when she gets cold. She was shivering the other day so I started putting her sweater on her.

Like everyone said - when it is clear they are cold. Meg has been wearing one coat for quite a while now (she spends the day outside with me at work); yesterday was the first time I had to pull out the second layer. Even with her nice oilskin on, she got shivery as soon as we stopped moving.

I started putting them on when we went outside and Marley was shivering like crazy. Marley and Sammy are the only ones that wear sweaters though.

Thanks guys! I guess I'll just have to watch her closely and if anything I'll bring her sweater with me just in case.
