The first thing that set him off was the trash barrels. He won't go near them now. Apparently, he's receiving direct messages from outer space that trash barrels are very dangerous.
Next, the garden wheelbarrow. We walked past it a hundred times over 2 months, he even peed on it. Then someone moved it 20 feet after gardening and it somehow became a deadly threat. After a week of him bolting in the other direction every time we got near it, I finally moved the wheelbarrow back to it's original spot. Now he wants to avoid both the actual wheelbarrow and the specific area I just moved it back from.
The past few days it's the opening in the fence we go through walking around the yard. When I say opening...it's about 8 feet wide. I'm about 17 inches wide so I feel the remaining 6 feet ought to be enough for one small dog to "squeeze" through comfortably without flipping around backwards and facing in the opposite direction from where we're going. Like, the fence is going to sneak up on him and attack him from behind? The portion of my yard that I walk him on is an acre and a half plus. Very peaceful, quiet.
Have other people noticed an onset of irrational fear of objects a few months after getting their dog? Is there a way to neutralize it? Could it be a reaction to a rabies booster shot? Know a good source for aluminum foil hats for dogs (j/k)?
