I'm finding it hard to know who to trust at this point. I sure don't like that Canidae writes a vague e-mail seeming to infer but not quite saying that they have their own plants/facilities when they don't.
I agree completely. I don't like it at all... I also don't like that they're sending out stock e-mail responses. I just don't know what I think right now. =/
I've got half a bag of Canidae left so it's not a decision I need to make right this second, but I gotta admit I'm questioning things now whereas a few days ago I felt fairly comfortable.
Innova EVO is tempting me. ;P

"Canidae doesn't own these plants outright, they have some type of a partnership and some specific equipment there. They just say "our" referring to the businesses do work with, which I don't like, since it's misleading - unlike for example Natura, which owns and operates its own dry food plant or Evanger's, which has their own cannery.
Canidae is canned at Evanger's--which is a great canned food. In fact, it's probably the only canned food I would feed.

I'm really not happy with them recently, because every time I ask specific questions, I either get a copy/paste reply that they seem to send to everyone, or my emails are completely ignored.
I don't know if it counts as recent, but I have an email from Lois at Canidae supporting the idea of feeding different brands of high quality kibbles.

Interesting that Evangers has their own cannery. I wonder if that's trustworthy info-- I have several cans of Evangers chicken in my pantry that I've been leary of using. My dogs LOVE it and it if smell and labelling s any indication , it's good stuff. We haven't had Evangers here very long and I honestly don't know much about them except that their products look nice.
I thought Evangers was widely regarded as one of the best canneries? http://www.startupjournal.com/columnists/enterprise/20070411-bounds.html

I don't know if you can blame them for sending stock e-mail responses. I know John from Eagle Pack posted on another board that he was 400+ e-mails behind, and they were still piling up. These companies are swamped. At least they're answering at all, and if they have a stock letter that answers probably 95% of the questions that are asked - I can understand them using it.

I agree with you on this one. I have had many non-stock email responses from Canidae. A couple of weeks ago I wrote them to ask if I could feed their cat food to my dogs and I got a response the next day and it was not a stock response...

From what I understand it's very expensive to have a cannery which is why there are only a few throughout North America wether it be for human food or pet food.
Evangers does have there own plant in the next town over from me been there for yrs and yrs making private label cans till a few yrs ago now also making there own brand of Canned foods

I guess the bottom line for me, is that Canidae is more cost-effective than Innova in my area (significantly so...but about $20 per large bag), and, my dogs have actually done BETTER on it than Innova EVO. Innova EVO, while being a phenomenal food, didn't work so well for Melvin or Puppy...horrid gas, tummy upset...and it existed for the full five months they were on EVO. Canidae has firmed up their stools, and helped with the hot spots and skin allergy issues as well. As long as they're thriving on the food, and I'm not paying out of my yin-yang for it, I don't really bother with the nitty-gritty details on which plant, organic ingredients (which isn't always better, anyway), etc. My dogs are healthy on the food, and I'm not breaking the bank, as they were on EVO. It's working for us.
