I got sick and tired of AIM's spyware. So I ditched all but one of my friends and went to MSN messenger. Since, I felt like a new person, I decided to give my computer a new look:

Notice how I only have one friend that uses MSN messenger (I have another one, just don't know his screen name)

so if you want to add me my email is [email protected] :)

You know, you can always download Trillian. Get it at www.ceruleanstudios.com

The basic version is free, contains no spyware or adware, and connects to AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, and MSN all at the same time from the same program. There's no need to get new screennames either, just log in with the ones you have, your buddylists will be imported as well.

I've been using it for 7 years now and still really like it :)

I've attached a screenshot for an example. I've got the pro version, where I can install things like spell checkers and spam blockers, but the basic version is fine :) I made a thumbnail so it didn't mess the thread width up, click on it for the full version

I recently found out about meebo.com. That also does the same thing, GTS, except in you browser. But yeah, Trillian looks pretty cool.

I've used meebo before too when I'm at computers other than mine. Trillian has a lot more functionality, though, since it's actually an application. File transfers, chat logging, webcams, and a lot of other stuff.

Really anything is better than AIM, Yahoo, or the other "real" clients

GAIM and Miranda are two other IM clients that connect to the major networks and are spyware and adware free.
