Im starting to treat Austin when he goes potty where I want him too. My question is what is the best way to treat him when he poops? I was told you should treat a dog when he is doing the behavior you want. But if I even try to go over to him when he is pooping he will stop. By the time he is done he is already off and running. So if I treat him then will he really know why he is getting treated? Today after going poop Ive been calling him back over to where he went and saying good potty and giving him the treat. Is this the right way to do it? Any pointers would be great.

Will he stop pooping if you talk to him while hes doing it? With Katie I gave/give verbal praise while shes going. That way I dont have to crowd her space, and she can tell by my tone shes doing good.

I wait until it's done. My pup doesn't seem to like it if I come near him while he's doing his thing, so I let him have his space :) I say "good boy!" very enthusiastically as soon as he's done, going on and on about what a good boy he is until I see his tail wagging.

I use "go potty" for one and "go poo" for the other -- comes in handy when you're in a hurry and he's only done one!
