Okay - this is not related to dogs in the least but I had to get it off my chest and although I love my husband dearly, conversation is not one of his strong points unless it's about our new house, our cars or our dogs so I figured I'd let it loose here. You don't even have to read it or comment - I just wanted to get it out.

Here's the deal: A few months ago our board approved hiring an outside firm to do a "survey" as to what we were paid compared to other counties and municipalities locally. They were doing this to raise our pay scale to match other areas for competition (basically so we won't leave and go to another county that will pay more for the same job). Today the results were reviewed in our monthly board meeting and the raise was DENIED. What gets me is that never was I told that this had to be reviewed again, I thought what they suggested was to be taken into consederation and they would base that for our yearly raise since it was already approved to use the firm. I was irritated about that and about the fact we're only getting a 3% raise no matter what the firm determined we should get. It got worse when I found out they spent $12,000 to hire this firm to do the study for NOTHING. They didn't even take their findings into consideration at all. All that money is now down the drain - it would have been easier and better for the employees if they just broke that $12,000 into a "bonus" and spread it out between us. Anyway, I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. I know it's not going to be pretty and most every one is pretty pisseds at the board members now. I don't know if they remember or not but they're an elected official and if they get too much flack for this this will be their 1st and last term. I'm not getting into it - i'll take what they give me because I know what it's like to go to a job you hate to the point it makes you sick (managed to do it for a month though) and I also know what it's like to not have a job at all - that doesn't mean the bills stop coming either. I'm happy to have a job I like pretty well and I'll take what they give me but I still can't believe they shot down a deal that cost them $12,000 to do. That's our taxpayers money at work!

Maybe that needs to get "leaked" to the local newspaper . . . Carefully though. You don't want to lose your job over it.

Sounds about par for the course for local government. Is someone related to someone in the firm that did the study?

we have the 2 local papers at every meeting and one of the reporters is a good friend of mine, that's how I found out before the meeting was over. I'm assuming by the way he was mumbling under his breath that he was going to print something sometime (that'd be great!!). Right now he's working on about 2-3 other stories about other county matters so I'd say this'll be next.
