I got my Golden Retreiver Zac from a woman who had a litter and had each dog picked by friends and family of her doggies, but her mom got sick and couldn't take the last puppy. I bought him for $700.00

He is a great dog with no health problems. He is my beautiful boy!

I don't remember how much Cerise (maltese) was, that was 13 yrs ago....Ruby (white boxer) we got for free 9 yrs ago as a puppy because they felt she was worth nothing. Keetah (Hairless chinese crested) was $750.00 already tattooed and vet checked etc., and Jasper adopted for $80 from the humane society...spayed/vaccined.
Huge range :p But they're all just as special :)

My oldest dog Patches (Aussie Mix), I believe cost us a whopping $15.00 ... but the joke was on the seller, I would have paid at least twice that!

My younger dog Kairi (Purebred Corgi Beast), cost $375. The price made my head hurt back then, but I can't imagine being without her today.

Simba was "on sale" as he was going to be put to death at $15.
Nala and Kiara were $65 because they were puppies.

All three were saved from an uncertain fate and I wouldn't have it any other way. I will NEVER, EVER, EVER purchase a dog from a breeder. There's no point in it for me.

Now im notdissing your brother but....

I noticed that you are in Canada. It's my understanding it is Illegal to sell a pure bred without papers. It like the pure bred animal act or something like that.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Im not trying to accuse anyone of anything Im just curious.
This is correct. In Canada it is illegal to sell a dog as 'purebred' without papers, and it's illegal to charge more for papers. It's the Animal Pedigree Act, under the Dept. of Agriculture.

I paid $50 for Java from NS Rott Rescue, after an extensive 8 page application, reference check, and home visit.

Titus was $100, after the same process.

It costs me well over $200 a month in food for them, plus other expenses.

My show puppy, whom I'm waiting for next year, will likely be around $1200.

What is the point of this post? Who cares how much your dog cost. I mean, because my dog cost $X does that mean she's better than a $y dog?

I dont think anyone thinks because one person spent 5000 for a dog and another got theirs for free they love them any less, or they are not as good.

But it is interesting to see what particular breeds cost and if that cost varies at all in different geographic areas, especially if you are interested in purchasing a dog soon.

Lovely sunny Perth! :-)
My GSD puppies that I lost in my divorce were $250 each from the same litter, and we also met their parents so we had a good idea of what we were getting. Gorgeous things.

Our pups now were $200 each.

Our cats, however, lol, well there's a different story :D Our Russian was $300, our Abysinnians were $250 each ten years ago, and our other two were rescues from the cat haven - $75 each including all shots, worming and spays. Bonus.

Let's not go into how much we spend on their FOOD

My first dog was a full size Dachshund, Gus, was free, his family had too many allergies.
My Beagle was from a higher up hunting line, went for 53 bucks in 1965.
His daughter was free
My next dog, a good purebred Lab, was 300 bucks in 1977, and was without a doubt, the unhealthiest one I have ever had.
My Pit/Golden Ret/??? Mix Gus, was free, he was supposed to be $30, but I never paid my vet for him.
Present dogs, Lab/Dobe/Husky? mixes, King and Molly were free.
