Ever since Max was taken to the vet and had the splint put on, he wants nothing to do with me. He will let me pet him and lays in my lap some but when I call him, etc he acts like I am not there.

Last night at obedience class he wouldn't do anything I asked of him, but when Melodie (the trainer) asked he did it right away. His test for his Obedience Certification is next week and at this rate I don't know if we will pass. And he was doing great up to this point too!!!

I know it sounds stupid, but I am getting frustrated and hurt that he is acting this way. I have been giving him extra TLC and everything.

Any suggestions?

Are you sure he's not just in pain??? I mean, if I had a splint on I wouldnt be moving much for anyone either LOL The fact that he listens to the trainer could be due to the fact that she's someone new so she's "exciting". Not that you arent, but she's still different.

You might be right, but she isn't a stranger anymore since we have been going for almost two months now. In the past, he wouldn't listen to anyone as well as he did me. But I definately attribute it to his splint though.

i agree with OC , when you are hurt and not feeling well, you do not want to do much. He has a splint on his paw, and you were there when it happened so he thinks ( even tho you DID not) that you had something to do with it. kinda like when i took THunder to get his shots, he would have nothing to do with me for like 2 weeks.. but after that he was fine.. You pup will get over it... as for the obidence class, did your vet say it was ok to go back to training so soon? just wondering. because my vet said my pup had to take it slow soon after his shots because he might feel uneasy. and he was LOL. but now he is fine.

Puppy~ I didn't even think to ask. But we don't move around all that much so I figured it wouldn't hurt to take him. We only have the one class left and since it has been a week I figured he would be ok.

I sure hope he gets over it soon. I miss my sweet cuddle-bug!

I agree with PL, he probably shouldnt be going back to class so soon. All it takes is one excited leap, lanidng a little funny to make a minor injury a severe one!

And RE the trainer not being a stranger, sure your pup knows her but he obviously doesnt live with her so anytime he sees her its still an exciting deal to him.

I think Max might be getting over it some. Last night we worked a little after the kids went to bed for some stimulation, and he was back to listening and responding to cues. Of course, he can't do them as fast and the tricks are pretty much out of the question at this point since he needs all four paws to do them.

I spent some extra time cuddling and playing with him last night. I have also cut back on the pain medication and he seems to be feeling better. I don't think that it has been agreeing with his stomach since he hasn't been eating as well and has really loose stools too. Last night he was almost back to normal.

I can't wait to get the splint off so I can have my Max back! :)
