Hi I'm so glad I've found this forum... i needed to find one for pets!!! Tired of asking animal questions on other sites! LOL

I'm Becky mom to 3 great kids who are 7,5,3 and married to my wonderful husband....

I'm also mom to 2 dogs, Joe is out Dalmation who's 5 years old now, he's deaf we didn't know when we got him when we got him at 8 weeks old. But once we had him for a week or so he was ours. he was so hard to break since ya know he couldn't hear our 'good boys' when he peed outside, also we got him in Dec it was cold, i had a 6 month old i was taking care of and what the heck were we thinking... anyways he's a great big baby soild to the hill now...

well here it is 5 years later, and we decide since we have a bigger house and are done having kids, we'd get another dog ... in December again what the heck ... well Jack is almost 5 months old he's a Labradoodle such a sweet good dog! We've had him a week and he's doing pretty good... i'll post questions in another forum...

but that's my family hopefully i can get some good info here and some help!!! :D

WELCOME to Chaz! :) Glad you've found us.

I'm a bit of a Dalmatian-freak (LOVE them.. I could never have one, but they are just so gorgeous) so if you have any pictures.. please post away! And puppy-pictures are always welcome.

Hi and welcome to Chazhound! I would love to see pictures of your dogs. I would love to rescue a deaf dalmatian in the future I think it's horrible how some people just dump them because they can't hear. I'm sure you'll learn a lot here and I hope you enjoy the forum :D

thanks for the warm welcome everyone!!! I'll try to get some pics up sometimes of the kids... all 5 of them! :)

Our deaf dal, came from a breeder who said he wasn't sure about the hearing, he said sometime it takes the ears of dals a while to open up and since he was only 8 weeks, i could still happen (not sure of the truth in that but oh well) he said if the dog was still having trouble hearing to bring him back and we'd get a new pup or $$ Back and he would be sure the dog was destroyed so that it couldn't be breaded ... HELLO by then he was our dog we weren't giving him back to bed killed!!!!

Welcome, Becky! Sounds like you have your hands full. One of my collies became deaf at age 11 (I know it's different) and live until 14.5. It was a challenge learning how to recommunicate with her. I actually found it fascinating and challenging. Again, welcome, and I'll see you on the forum!

yep we never got the papers for the dal either... b/c he was deaf the breader didn't want us to have anything of where he came from so it didn't make them look bad... whatever. it was so dumb. my dh is a volenteer fire fighter, we were able to teach our deaf dal to stop drop and crawl (he wouldn't roll for the life of him LOL) and dh use to take him to schools, ect. he hasn't in a while though, with us moving, and him being in side so much not out to see people as much as he use to, he's not so good in big crowds anymore...

-Waiting anxiously for pics-

We had a deaf Pup a few years back. But I didn't notice it til a few weeks after, seen as puppies ussually dont respond all that much in the first week.He was TERRIBLE to housetrain.Did you try a water bottle, Just squirt it when they pee inside. If it weren't for that I'd have gone insane.

That breeder sounds awful! Glad he's in a loving home now though!
