I feel this is the best decision for Binn. Because Binn is not doing well, and will progressively get worse as he gets bigger, we have a big move coming up so we have decided it was in Binn's best interest if he not make the move with us.

We are moving to Las Vegas at the end of this month. There is a Irish Wolfhound rescue group in California that is willing to take him in and get him the treatment he needs.

The IW group in Dallas cannot take him, they do not have enough funds to get him his surgery, so they directed us to a group in California that is willing to help. some months ago a lady from the IW group here in Dallas was willing to drive Binn herself to the exact same place where he is going now, but we were for sure he would've been better by now, so we said No.. let him stay here with us. Months have gone by and he's not doing any better. He's got fluid building up behind his joints.. he needs help.

The group in Cali are paying to fly Binn out, and paying for his treatment, they will also give Binn a loving home there. There are already several Wolfhounds there, so Binn will have friends.

We've already talked to the owner of the IW group, and arrangements have already been made. Binn will have his last vet appointment here, to confirm he is healthy enough to fly, and then he will be flown out this Friday.

I know, several months ago I did say we had the money for Binn's surgery, since then we have bought a house, and now we are moving to Las Vegas so we can no longer afford his surgery.

It is hard for me to give him up, he is my heart dog and my best friend, but i know he will get the love and the treatment he so much needs at the new home he will go to. :(

As for Stella, she is going to a new home as well. We have already visited her new home. She will be living on 5 acres with a loving family that has lots of kids, and no dogs, so she can be top dog again.. lol

It takes courage and heart to do the best for your dog when you are financially unable to do so.

Binn will be just fine, and you are to be strongly admired for being willing to do what is right for him when it's not what is easy.l

I know its a hard choice, but I commend you for making what seems to be the right one.

We're here for you if you need to talk or vent...
Good Luck on your move! :D

Oh, I'm so very sorry. I know how close you are to Binn and I wish there was a way for you to pay for his treatment . . .

:(

Is there a reason you're giving up Stella too?

There is no real reason now.. now that Binn is going away. It was because they didn't get along, but now that he's going, she could stay, but we have already made arrangements with her new family for her to go with them.

We'll also be staying in new apartments for the first 30 days, its a little easier for us if we didn't have her.. small apartment, 3 kids, 1 big dog.

I would hate to put more stress on her by her flying in a plane.

I don't think so. I don't know though. I will have to check on that.

If so, that would be great.

If not, well.. thats ok. I know that he'll be taken care of.

I am currently dealing with a dog with luxating patellas. She had surgery on one leg and will probably need the other leg done in the next year. With xrays, surgery, vet visits, physical therapy, etc, it is neither cheap nor easy. We must constantly watch her, to make sure she doesnt jump or run too much. However, the day we bought her we made a commitment to her, not only when everything was perfect but FOREVER no matter what.

I understand that things come up and sometimes people have to rehome dogs for circumstances beyond their control. However, rehoming both dogs that you havent even had that long, doesnt seem right.

I am becoming very disappointed with this board. When I came here I thought everyone here loved animals as much as I did and I was glad to find people like that. However, it seems that *some* on here, can only love in the good times.

:( I hope Binn and Stella have found good homes where they will be loved and cared for FOREVER.

Every situation is different.

Don't bash me please. This is hard enough for me to deal with.

We found a place that will help Binn, they will pay for his treatment, they are flying him out there on their own expense not ours.

I would rather see Binn get help, then having him stay here with us.. when we cannot finacially afford his treatment.

Its best for him.

Sometimes "Love" means being able to let go.

Elissa, I thought this too when I first read her post :( ...but oppted not to say any thing for now. But I agree with you :)

Maybe it is just me, but it seems maybe kinda selfish to do that to 2 dogs that have been with you for some time now...to just place them in TWO totaly different homes and then have Binn go through a stressful and painful surgery and have no one there that he knows and can trust :(

Maybe that is just me though.....

I agree, Elissa, but right now is not the time for bashing IMO. I don't think anything we say can change her mind and as much as I'd love to see Binn and Stella stay with Grace, I don't see a need to lay into her for it. It's an incredibly difficult decision to make.

Were Binn my dog, I'd be postponing the move in order to care for him, but not everyone can do that. She's doing what she thinks is best for her dog and her family, and I don't think it's right to condemn her for it.

Please don't bash. As someone who's been in a similar situation I can tell you that it doesn't help at all :(
