The Day After Tomorrow is one of my favorite movies. Though extreme, I think certain aspects of it are realistic.
Just yesterday while I was driving, the radio stated that we had another record breaking temperature day. It also stated that scientists are saying that 2007 will be the warmest year EVER.
I work at a vet clinic, and I can tell you that this fall/winter has been much worse so far as fleas are concerned because of the warmer temperatures.
I was in Michigan over New Years visiting one of my best friends. Her father own 300+ acres of apple orchards. That's his business. He told me that because the winter has been so warm, that the trees aren't "going to sleep" like they are supposed to. He is worrying about how this will affect the next growing season. He also stated that if it continues to be warm, the sap (which normally drains down from the trunks/branches of the trees in the winter) might rise back up. And if that occurs, and suddenly they get the weather they're supposed to have (cold, snow) - the sap will freeze and kill the trees.
I've always been aware of global warming, but the story about the apples and how it affects them was another huge eye opener. I never thought of that. Global warming affects so many things that you might not even think of right off the top of your head.
