The wise words of a good Fila owner.....
"Let's face it, the only thing crazier than a Fila is a Fila's person"

Remember that? :D :D :D

oK I could not just keep my big prego mouth shut.

Obviously by my name Im a Cane Corso Passionate. (FYI its not pronounced CANE as in sugar cane check this link out http://corsoluv.com/Pronouncing_Cane_Corso.html )

Anyhoot 1- the cane corso is not dog aggressive. 2- the corso is not a super prey driven dog like a beagle, hound, pitbull, other breeds bred to chase small game and kill or hold. 3- True they are aloof with strangers however this does not mean they are killers, it means...they are aloof with strangers, they are a molosser guardian breed. 4- males can get along, true it is possible that there are dogs out there that will catch and kill, just as their are goldens that will catch and kill, rotties that will catch and kill, dobies, poms, poodles, cockers, and so on.

Each breed has a standard they should fit, but a cane corso is not a hunting dog or one that chases small game and kills them. True they are bred mainly for working and farming, however there are breeders that breed strictly for pets and companions. As well as breeders producing dogs that are K9 cop dogs, SAR (search and rescue dogs) and many many other things from therapy dogs to fly ball dogs. As each year passes there are only more and more corso dogs getting involved into more and more of a wide range of activities which shows how versatile the breed is to adapt and what kind of temperament they have. Unless you getting a dog from the farms of Italy the instinct has been watered down here in the USA. It’s hard to find working stock lines worth the title WORKING.

My oldest corso is 6 yrs old, he spent from about 9 months of age to about 1.5yrs INTACT living with an INTACT rottie, pit bulls, sheps and all kinds of other dogs that I would foster. Not once showing to be dog aggressive.

It saddens me when i see so much misrepresentation on the breed being spilled. If you have not owned or worked with the corso dog you cannot speak on them as if you know what kind of dogs they are. And if your experience has only been with a handful of dogs or the words of others who own one or what you read, you really have no place in saying what the dog is really like.

I will say there is tons of good info coming from most of you all here, and your genuine concern for a puppy with this ability into a home with someone that is not suited for one is a AWESOME and I DO respect that. But it does as much harm to misinform people on the breed.

Im not sure how educated Violet is on the breed yet, or related breeds, but the thing is that she made a good choice to start research, and find a good breeders. While I will say some breeders she has asked bout I would not touch with a million foot pole, (unless it was a rescue dog of course) but that is because I have been with the breed since 1993 and I have studied, worked with, researched and traveled until I found THE ONE! (6.5 years later mind you)

It doesnt help when people attack or insult someone about their lack of education, especially when people the BREED advice is being given from is incorrect. Now dont get me wrong I think there has been many good links for info, much good DOG advice as to if she is ready for such a dog but there has also been quite a bit of incorrect info.

Prior to my first corso my passion breeds were rotties and pitbulls. While there are similar characteristics, they are more then VERY different! I agree a Corso is not for everyone, just as any breed needs the correct match for a successful relationship. Pitbulls are bully/terrier breeds, super energy, willing to please their owners, stubborn and always ready to go go go. Very prey driven. A rottie and corso are more similar, they are both molossers, both family guardian breeds, both loyal, and both have the vicious dog title. STUPID UNEDUCATED IRRESPONSIBLE PEOPLE give dogs these names, not the dogs.

A Corso puppy when raised with other dogs should be fine with males or females, true there are exceptions, as their are with ANY breed. Sad thing is this breed is going down the road of the rottie and pitbull by ending up in the wrong country/ghetto bumpkin hands and being mass bred and sold to other country/ghetto bumpkin ignorant owner hands with no concern for lineage, health, and temperament. Which many of you know causes unstable krazy unpredictable dogs, AS WITH ANY BREED!

My corso dogs have been around kids, cats, small creatures, other dogs, and so on. The only one I have trouble with strangers is Bronx, my 6 yr old and that is because that is how I raised him to be. When I got him I was living in a college house outside of Washington DC and wanted him to be my protector, companion and jogging buddy. He has proven worth every single penny and second of love I have put into him. Protecting me on more then one occasion and yet showing unconditional love, warming up to my husband and allowing our 3 yr old, 2 yr old and 1 yr old to run around him, bump into him, trip over him and even ride him when mommy and daddy are not looking.

A corso is a highly versatile dog BUT YES THEY DO NEED A FIRM HANDLE, and they need to have a momma and/or poppa that establishes dominance ASAP!

Oh and another thing, the term rolling varies based on each person definition of it. My 13 years with this breed and every single one I have come into contact with; dominance is established ASAP and rolling, if you will, has been done by me and my husband (once he came into my corso obsessed life and was taught how to do it) and it has proven MORE then effective. HOWEVER, I do not suggest rolling a corso dog for example if its a strangers dog, lol a rescue you just met, and especially if you have no breed or breed related experience!

I hope I have not offended anyone but ahh I seem to be good for that when I talk about my breed.

But in closing I will say you all have provided much good info, I just ask that you be careful given specific details and advice on breeds your not 101% devoted to learning and soaking in ever single little thing you possible can.

-Hearsay,
-handful of dogs,
-watched em on TV
-friends have one
-friends have some
-read in a book
and so on does not count as credible advice.

But I do want to say thank you for being so thorough and concerned about a corso puppy and the education and readiness of their new home.

Wow thanks alot for your post Corsoluv. It was very informative for me :)

I am curious, which breeders did you not like? I am trying to do my best with choosing a good breeder. I would love to know if they aren't a good choice.

We are considering Cane Corso Vero again, because we found out the girl pup we were wanting does not have papers and the breeder just seems kind of out of it in other ways..

The pup we are interested in at Vero sounds very nice and just had his xrays and stuff. What do you think of them?

Sounds like a great place. Are other dog breed people welcome?
Oh yes absolutely, we love big dog folks there, even have some small dog owners pop in once in a while. We used to have more molosser breed owners on there but the come by once in a while, we have a bulldogger often and many folks that own CC's have other breeds as well. Actually we have a few cc and bulldogs owners on there.

Your welcome to come on by and share photos and stories. were photo obsessed there. :)

Your welcome and you are welcome to email me or send me a PM on my board regarding breeders, I dont like to put too much out in public, just makes for bad conduct. I will tell you who i would personally get a puppy from here in the USA and i dont think you have mentioned a single one of them. :)

The corso world is a hard one like most others but with this breed you have be be super careful or else you will end up with a genetic mess on your hands. I would suggest asking every single question you can and keep track of what they ask you. If they dont ask you more than 10 questions i would leave em be. If they get a bit annoyed at answering yours,....i would leave em be. True some of the good ones i would buy from myself have a lack of time and patience on the phone with folks about their puppies. but tha tis because they either have all of them placed before they are born and only trust a select few or they are super busy with working/show/training their dogs and really prefer the personal visit face to face. But most of them will spend hours on the phone with you helping you out and just talking corso.

Thank you :D

I would feel very bad if I rushed for my own selfishness of wanting a dog as fast as possible lol.. and then it turned out to have alot of problems and hurt one of the kids or something. My bf has a 6 year old and a 7 year old so thats number one priority for us :)
