Belmont Girl, 5, Recovering From Dog Bite To Face
(BCN) BELMONT The Peninsula Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is investigating a report that a 5-year-old Belmont girl was bitten in the face by a dog late Wednesday afternoon, according to the Belmont Police Department.
The girl was bitten in an apparently unprovoked attack after petting the dog, a black Labrador retriever, while she was at an after-hours youth soccer game at Fox Elementary School with one of her parents around 5:25 p.m., police reported.
Fox Elementary School is located at 3100 Saint James Road in Belmont.
The dog was leashed and was being walked by one of its owner's friends, who had stopped to talk to the girl's parent.
The girl was treated at the scene and then taken to Sequoia Hospital for additional treatment and evaluation, according to police.
The Labrador has been impounded by the humane society, according to police.
