my own side of the family are all animal people, of course including me.
my husband doesn't like dogs much, he's a cat person, but he doesn't really want pets because he wants to be able to travel without much planning and organizing for the pets to be taken care of.
of course he loves the cats we have right now, and for someone who generally doesn't like dogs he gets along really well with quigley (plays with him, is interested in his training progress and so on), but he would prefer it if we didn't have a dog. after i moved from germany to live with him, it took me 2 years of begging and pleading until he would let me have a dog again, and i think a second one is still out of the question for at least another 2, if i can even manage to convince him at all.
few of my husband's side of the family actually own pets, but those who do are mostly your typical, average, uneducated american pet owners.
i try to enlighten them as gently as possible without being confrontational, but sadly their belief in advertising and questionable recommendations from their vets are stronger, and they often think the various health issues their pets have are "normal".
they all like quigley and comment on how well behaved he is, but they don't understand that you actually have to work on training and dogs don't just come well behaved from the start.
