The past two days Jumbo's had some clear/white eye goop collecting in the corners of his eyes, but it happens sometimes when he wakes up, so i didn't think anything of it. First thing this morning, he looked like one of his eyes was a little droopy and red. As the day has progressed, they've both gotten really red and now he's blinking a lot.

Other than that he seems fine- eating, drinking and pooping fine, cold/wet nose, ears not overly warm. He's got as much energy as usual. Occasionally i see him rub an eye with his paw, but other than that he seems fine.

Allergies? We've had him less than a year (he's only a year old) so we don't know what he's like in all seasons yet.

i'm thinking to give it a day or two and if it doesn't clear up, take him to the vet. It's got to be either a cold or allergies, right? And it seems more like allergies than anything else. A little Benadryl?

Any insight would be helpful, thanks!

If the dog is blinking the eye, it could very well be a sign of pain. I suggest a visit to the vet.

I would watch a dog rubbing even a little with paws. They can cause trauma induced eye problems. Generally rubbing is also a sign of discomfort and pain.

It sounds like he may have an eye infection.. POSSIBLY allergies.

Eye problems are nothing to wait on. I'd get him into the vet as soon as you can.
