What are your opinions on them. I'm soooo terrified of giving birth(no, I'm not pregnant, this is for future references). I just want a real easy birth, and least pain as possible!! Hopefully I would deliever the natural way, I would hate to get a c-section. And I don't want no injections. Is getting a episiotomy a good idea? I heard sometimes it might increase tearing, but isn't suppose to prevent it? Can you get it with a waterbirth? Is a waterbirth a good idea? How expensive can a water birth be? Thanks :)

Waterbirths depend on were yuo are giving birth. Were I did my clinical ther ewas only one birthing room with a tub and they said it was barely used. As far as the episiotomy its not really a choice, eitheir they need to hurry and cut or you tear. there may be cases were it is a choice but from wha tI have seen it eitheir needs done,or it'll rip. There are those that it just slips right out but they are jsut lucky:p There are a couple diffrent types they do,thats probally a better thing to look into vs. if you want one or not.

I had a episiotomy or would have torn quite badly. With the other pain I didnt really notice.I could feel the stitches after though. It was nothing compared to surgery on my arm while awake though. Not sure on waterbirth it kind of scared me.

One woman told me she had an episiotomy and it caused her to rip much more and they had to stich her back up after  Kind of like nicking some fabric before you tear it.

If you have a REALLY patient doctor, episiotomy might not be needed right?

Oh okay, thanks everyone!! You don't notice the stitching up right, like while the doctors are sewing it up, or do you feel it?

An episiotomy is usually small and controlled. Tearing on the other hand, especially if the child is larger, can result in more pain and more stitches.

There is no question that there is some pain involved in childbirth. But my two sons are a joy I have never regretted.

To decrease fears due to lack of familiarity, you can I am sure find books and videos that will show you the process, and of course ask questions. That really helps, to understand each stage of the birth and see pictures, but there is nothing to prepare you for the indescribable feeling of love and joy when you finally look at the tiny beautiful face of the new being you have brought forth into the world.

If you go to a hospital with a midwife that assists the doctor, they are more likely to try to prevent needing an episiotomy, but I think joce is right - you don't really have a choice...and I don't think that's the biggest thing on your mind at that point.

Oh, and there are websites out there - mostly about home birth - that talk a lot about water birth...I know they helped me get over my fears (and I had lots of fears!)

Were they pros or cons? I was thinking more of a hospital waterbirth, no way can I have a home delivery.

May I ask.. are you pregnant?

Im not sure why your question struck me as a little odd. I guess its because not too many sit around and wonder about episiotomies, waterbirths, and how much they cost unless they were pregnant or planning on being pregnant soon.. anyway :p

I have parenting skills classes and these topics were brought up once, so I just wanted to ask people who actually given birth. This girl in my class just delivered a baby girl, I know she's going to be bombarded with questions when she comes back.

My mind is always in the future, kids, house, career, ect. I do look into what I'm doing now, but I don't see nothing wrong with looking into the future.
