I hope she is more cautious in the future. She looked like she was about to faint at the end of the video. Her dog could have easily suffocated. :(

Watching that video nearly made me sick. I feel badly for her honestly, I cannot imagine trying being her position. She's not heroic by any means, but she reacted immediately, I think the doors just closed and the elevator started before she could get the leash in the door. She saw the end sticking out, tried to pull it in, but was just unlucky.

I've been a huge idiot before that nearly resulted in the end of my dog's life. Part of me could not believe I could have been so stupid, but the other part of me knows it was a freak happening. Have I ever done it again? No. But if that had never happened, I'd probably still be doing it.

Good luck getting that dog into an elevator ever again. I'm glad she was able to get him loose, but HOLY CRAP that's scary. What's scarier is that this ISN'T the first time I've seen a similar scenario.

I used to go in elevators all the time with Logan (I haven't had a need to since classes ended). You simply DON'T let the leash drag, that's all there is to it. Keep all body parts and equipment inside the elevator, and you're good to go.

This almost happened to me once but Ivy would've been stuck on the outside where I couldn't release her. I had Cian on my back, Lilah's hand in mine and Ivy on lead. We walked into the elevator and ivy was in a fear period I guess and right as the doors were closing she lunged backward out of the doors. I JUST got my hand in the crack right as they were closing. One of my scariest moments ever.

Saw that on Facebook the other day, made me feel sick!
Glad I've never lived anywhere with the dogs that the elevator was necessary.

Absolutely terrifying

Terrifying. The most frustrating part for me is that, after she has the dog loose, she stays in the doorway of the elevator to collect her thoughts and her things. It's not a safe spot. My husband works in the industry and we hear of some pretty horrible accidents from time to time.

Just a friendly reminder to NEVER stick your hand in the doors of an elevator to try and prompt them to open. Never.

So scary!

Zoe went on an elevator exactly once. When we took her to the specialist for her TPLO, she had to go for a consult one day, and they scheduled surgery for the next, so she was in the hotel with us for the night. I didn't think to get a ground floor, and with a torn CCL, she couldn't do stairs. The first time was fine, because she had no idea. After the floor moved, she decided to never go in one of those demon rooms again. And I didn't force her, for fear of a nightmare scenario like this. Thus, my 85lb dog had to be carried up and down the stairs for pottying.
