I have been looking into getting a dog potty or litter box for my five-month-old lab to use one day a week while I have a long day at work/school. Even if I set up a dog walker, the walker would have to come multiple times during the day and an accident is still a risk. Has anyone ever used a dog potty.
I am looking at options like The Pet Loo or PetaPotty which use sod or synthetic grass. My dog is fully potty trained and I feel that using a grass or grass substitute will prevent confussion or regression. She struggles with the idea of using a "potty pad."
Does anyone have experience with these sort of pet potty options? What should I be looking for? I live in a studio apartment, so smell is definitely a concern. If I clean the tray, will the smell disapear? Is there a difference in smell camoflauge/break down between the synthetic and the sod? What is the best way to clean the tray in a studio apartment?
If you are concerned about the ethics of using a dog potty or living in a studio apartment, worry not. She is a well cared for dog who recieves plenty of exercise and outdoor time. The potty would only be used once a week, not as an absolute alternative to walks.
Thank you for any help, suggestions, resources, etc! Having always lived in a house with a doggy door, I've never dealt with a situation like this before.
