Good thing I'm learning about these things now before I get a Dog of my own. After reading about how hot it can get in a car, I'll never leave a Dog in one. But I do believe a lot of this happens because people are ignorant about these things at times. I think people should have to take tests before they can have a Dog, to make sure they know what they can and can't do. I think it would stop a lot of bad things like this from happening.
good point!!! and i am really proud of u for thinking that way, and tryin to learn as much as u can before gettting a dog. when i was young i went and got a 5 week old cocker spaniel thru the paper, while i had a 5 week old baby at home. i had no clue it was a bad thing to do getting the puppy so early, and i had NO clue what to do with a dog. never owned one..i wished back then i was as smart and responsible as u

Thanks for the compliment. :p

I wanna get this right on my first attempt. I'm gonna read as many books as possible, and possibly attend some training classes as an observer. Plus I wanna make sure I find the right Dog from the right breeder. So a lot of home work is being done. Just 4 pages to go and I'll have finished reading my second book in the last 3 days :D

Today my neighbour took their Dog out for a walk, and it was pulling him every where while barking at me. I do not want to make to same mistake of not training my puppy properly like he has. I want to train my little girl to heel properly, and I'm a very stubborn person, and will not give up on my Dog at all. :)

I hate it when people just leave their pets in the car when they KNOW they shouldn't. Last Sunday, my Mom and I went out with Colby. She had to run into the store to pick up a prescription, and though it was a cool day in the summer for Illi, we didn't feel comfortable leaving Colby in the car by herself, so I stayed in the car with the air conditioning on and gave her some water. I turned the AC off a while later because there was a cool breeze.

Poor dog! I can't believe people still do that...when they KNOW it gets hotter in a car than outside! I never leave Charlie in the car, I stay in the car with him. Poor dog!

there are times dogs die of the owners ignorance..and there are accidents too. I don't know how my stepdaughter delt with this..but here is a story of an accident.
it was really hot on the farm, about 102 so we all wanted to go the spring water pond and swim. The farm dog Skippy never missed a trip to the water so when we got down there and she wasn't with us..we got concerned. We called everywhere. Finally we found what happened. The girls were very young..around 7 and 10. Skippy bit when they tried to play..and they wanted to play with Frisky..a stupid and delightful dog. So one of the gurls put skippy in the truck (she loved the truck) and shut the door. THey went on to play with Frisky then came down to the pond. I won't describe the insides of that truck..and obviously when we found Skippy she was dead. You coulnd't even see in the windows for the saliva and blood. IT happens..both out of ignorance, and the pure mistake of a child. i never rode in that truck again and it has haunted me all these years. It is in memory of that which makes me not leave the parking lot when i pull up and see a dog in a car on a warm day. I start with clerks and move on to managers until i see the owner come out. I hope everyone that reads this will remember that cracking the windows does no good what soever...it lets hot air out (as more builds up) not cool air in..that dogs are 30 degrees hotter then we are so if it is 70 to us it is 100 to them..that heat stroke is a painful way to die.Keep them at home where they are safe..it only takes a few minutes for the heat to build up to a stage of pure panic.

we never spoke of it..she grew up to be a wonderful compitent excellent and organized mother of 9. Her house puts mine to shame..no clutter can you imagine..i got stacks of papers and i did split my toenail on a rock left under my art table last night..sigh..i just posted that because sometimes it is an accident..an awful horrible, tearful and guilt ridden accident..lets all watch out for our four footers until the heat is over.

Just the other day while at the market a man came up behind me with 2 items so I let him go ahead and he said thanks, my dogs in the car, all I said to him was a stern SHAME ON YOU.... he was a very old man and I didnt want to yell at him but I think he got my point.

several years ago when I lived north of dallas texas there was an article in the denton (the town I lived in) newspaper complaining about this issue. only the paper was on the other side of it, apparently in texas, dallas county, or the city of denton at least, it is legal to break a car window and remove the dog if left for more than 60 seconds between may and september. someone did it in a albertsons (grocery store) parking lot and left with the dog, took it to the city shelter and explained the situation and gave them the license plate number of the car it was removed from. the only problem I see with this law (it may have been done away with after that incedent) is that someone could break your window and say they did it because they thought there was a dog in the car.
I take strider with me everywhere I go when I can, but if Im going alone he doesnt go. only if my wife is going along so one of us can stay in the car with the ac on.
