okay, uhm here goes
I support the death penalty for certain cases, but especially child molesters and violent sex offenders. suicide rates are higher among their victims than any other crime victim, as far as i am concerned they killed those people they just did it slower. also amongst sex offenders the recidivism rate is so high as to functionally be 100%. so as long as they are wasting air they are a threat to our society and worse our members of society who are least able to defend themselves. i actually am willing to consider more leeway with murderers than sex offenders.
if you catch a dog killing your sheep you kill it. if you catch a bear killing your cattle, you kill it. if you catch a mt lion killing your horses you kill it. all predators. it's in their nature to be predators. if you move them from your ranch to somewhere else they just become predators on someone elses stock. they won't stop being predators. it would be nice if they would stop but they won't so you end the problem permanently.
sex offenders are predators. they won't stop being predators. if you move them from general society to another enclosed society and they have the physical capacity to do so they simply continue to be predators. what they do negatively impacts society on a great scale and with an enduring impact. the simple answer is to just end the problem.
i don't want to execute them for vengeance. i want to execute them because they will never not be a threat. they will always be a problem unless you make them not a problem. I don't care if they are mentally ill, it doesn't make them less of a threat. in fact it would be saving them from mental anguish that comes from their illness.
i am okay with having extremely high standards of evidence for what merits the death penalty (especially with murder). i think a bigger issue with false convictions lies with willful misconduct as regards the rules of evidence. too many prosecutors withholding exculpatory evidence. i think they need to do some time instead of just being fired.
i also don't think the death penalty needs to be particularly brutal and certainly not torture. however i think certain simple methods considered inhumane should be reconsidered. rope and a guillotine can be reused, are extremely effective and easier to get right than testing new drugs.
i understand not everyone will agree but that is how i feel about it.
i also feel the "country club/criminal college" atmosphere in prisons needs to go away. first get rid of the exercise equipment. then limit the diet and exercise so they CAN"T become huge killing machines. by the time they leave prison they should be more frail than an elderly man (or woman).
and i agree completely with decriminalizing drugs. it is a huge waste of money.
however i also feel we need to demilitarize our law enforcement. kick them out of the patrol cars and get them on the beat back in the neighborhood. that way they actually know people, treat them like human beings and prevent some people from becoming criminals in the first place.
