We just got a new puppy. She is a 9 week old dalmatian/akita mix. This is the first time that we have known the actual breeds of one of our dogs, so I would like to know if there is anything different that she needs, such as amount of exercise, sweaters in the cold, food (low protein diet??), etc... Although she is part akita, she definetely is more dalmatian. She has short fur and she is very lean and energetic. However, she does have the small, short face of an akita and it appears that her little tail is going to curl. Any info on either of these breeds would be appreciated, because I really want to give her the best of care,

LOL! Well, I can tell you to expect her to have a mind of her own! It will be interesting to see if she has more of the humor of the Dalmation, or the serious focus of the Akita. I'd get busy socializing her . . . a LOT . . . and I'd love to see a photo too :)

I would love to post a picture, but our camera wire (forget what its called) broke last week, so I will post some as soon as we buy a new one. She is mostly black, but her paws are specalled black and white and she has a white patch running down her chest with spots on it. She is absolutely gorgeous. Her head is shape kinda funny though compared to my other dogs. Its really short and round and looks a little pit bullish, but I am assuming that an Akita would look like that without all of the fur.

Right now she does not seem to be serious at all. She is vey plainful, but we have to watch her very closely outside because she seems to have an excellent sense of smell and tends to finds a lot of dead rodents, which we don't really want her eating. We have been bringing her for walks every second day (she gets too tired if we bring her everyday) at a local park so that she gets used to kids and other animals.

Ohh...and her name is Shadow
