Hey guys I haven't posted here a lot but I love to read everything and i know there are some pretty experienced people on this board. So today my friend and I went on a bike ride. It was still light out around 8pm riding down this semi deserted road, decent area but not residential and most of the stores were closed.

So anyways there's this guy in his 50's maybe in the middle of the road. All of a sudden as we past he starts running along side us, screaming obcentities and trying to hit me with this long block of wood. We managed to speed up and he threw it at us when he obviously couldnt keep up anymore. Then he screamed at us till we were out of view.

I seriously contemplated turning around and punching him in the throat, I'm still pissed off. But my other friends more of a pacifist and wants to forget it happened. I saw his face though, he really was trying to hurt us and he was nuts, and now I'm wonering if I should call the cops?

The thing is I'd know him if I saw him again but I don't know if I could describe his face. And he didn't hurt us so I don't know if it's worth it or if theres even a real crime here. I'm worried he may do it to someone else...but I don't know. Gah opinions would be good, my opinion is that I should go back in my car and run him over but thats not entirely rational

sound's like maybe he is mentally instable. Maybe there is something wrong with his mind, seriously. Like maybe he's Scitzophrenic(sp) or has Dementia. There is a huge list of mental diseases that he could have. My mom works in a mental institution and I hear stories of people acting out in strange ways that they never would normally.
I translate for this mental hospital and I met a young man who heard voices all the time. While I was sitting here helping him with this Admit papers he kept staring out the window to the parking lot. I asked him if anything was wrong and he told me that there was a man in the parking lot waving a gun around screaming that he was going to kill this man's wife and daughter. A few minutes later this guy jumps up and goes to push me out of my chair (thank goodness there were tons of nurses around to grab him) When we asked him what went on he said that he was trying to protect me from the man walking down the hall behind me. He said that this man was carrying a knife and was going to kill me.

Things that seem imaginary to us can be seriously real to a person with a mental condition.

I would call the police and let them know what happened. They will do whatever they see fit. Hopefully this guy gets a mental eval. though.

The first thing you SHOULD have done was contact the police.

Now, was there anyway that you could have been trespassing on his property? Where there any signs posted?

I'm not sure what yoru laws are where you are from, but here he could have charges laid on him. Attempted Assault.

you need to contct the police if you haven't arleady done so, tell them the area you were in, EVERYTHING that happened - do not exaggerat to them though.
Describe the clothes he was wearing, colour of his hair, eyes if you saw them, his approx age, any distinctive things like possibe peircings, tattoos, scars etc.

They need to know whats going on - in case this man has hurt people before and they never said anything, or he tries to hurt other people.

So this guy was a complete stranger and you had not done anything to make him angry and he just attacked you for no reason at all? If that's the case, he sounds like a real nutball and yes, I would call the police and make a report.

Yes it is worth reporting to the police, even as only a "cold case" report. When they sit down to figure out what neighborhoods to patrol and how often, they go by what areas have more police reports. Also, if that guy is still lurking in the area and does manage to hurt someone, they will have kind of a history to go on, that being someone matching his description was acting in a similar way two weeks prior (or something).

So yes, even though they can't really do anything about what happened, it is very helpful to them to know that something occurred.

He he, sounds like a run of the mill nut ball to me! We see tons of that around here, people drink meths and go nuts!
I had some nutter walk past me on the street and go off his bean about how he is going to kill my f*&%ing dog and beat me with the body. I just giggle and walk on.

Call the cops, this guy might hurt himself or others.
