Those public areas have no right to just put up those no dogs allowed signs. It has to go through city council as Dizzy stated. Alas my city council has smart people on it who wont do something like that.

Responsible dog ownership has nothing to do with picking up dog ****. :p

1. I live in United States at the moment
2. I do not start crap with every post. If stating my opinion is starting crap, then dont ask for an opinion in a first place.
3. If you learned to read before post, you would see that I only let my dog poop in places where there is a cleaning crew everyday. I always pick up when he goes on someone elses property. We dont walk around parks or children so those areas dont concern us.
4. You speak for all of US? How come majority of dog owners dont pick up after their dogs then?

Get off my back, you seem to have an issue with following me from thread to thread and being obnoxious.

They are getting paid to do, I dont like carrying a pound of poor for over 2 miles.
How about being a really good citizen and make a phonecall to suggest they place some garbage cans around the areas you walk your dog in to motivate people to pick up after their dog, I bet the cleaning crew would be really thankful :D

Honestly I dont think it's ANYONE's job to pick up after your dog, but yours. Even tho they get paid for it... imagine if you were doing the job yourself i'm sure you'd be very pleased if all dogowners would be RESPONSIBLE and you wouldn't have to deal with that.

Also imagine the cleaning crew not doing a good job... it's not just kids that walk around and get it on their clothes/shoes, I cant tell you how many times I've caught my dog trying to eat another dog's poo... and that can be really unhealthy with all kinds of stuff going around passing on from dog to dog... ew! i'm sure you wouldn't want that to happen to your dog either while you are waiting for the cleaning crew to clean up someone else's dogpoo... little late if your dog just ate it. Maybe just something to keep in mind.

I have said 2 things to you. Yes I did read your posts in fact I didnt say anything about this till now,

"Those public areas have no right to just put up those no dogs allowed signs. It has to go through city council as Dizzy stated. Alas my city council has smart people on it who wont do something like that.

Responsible dog ownership has nothing to do with picking up dog ****. " Yeah actually depending on if it is a city park or not they do, and I dont see a problem with that.

"You speak for all of US? How come majority of dog owners dont pick up after their dogs then? "

I speak for myself the others here speak for themselves. People need to be responsible for their animals, themselves and there children. It isnt our fault here that they are not, we as a whole feel they should (from the posts here that is the general concenscious - This is my post -Sorry but if I am i a public place, dont matter who is paid to do what, they are not paid to clean up after me. I would not want to be walking around a park and slip on dog chit. The park next to my house actually has bag holders for doggy duty. It is responsible dog ownership to clean up after your dog. If you dont want to then dont take them out in public.

I have alot better things to do then sit here and wait to see if you post then jump on there and bash you, good grief. If you dont want to be carrying around dog poop then figure something else out. I dont follow you around from thread to thread, but you are shoving what you think it should be like down everyones throat

city councils respond to public demand, and they will act if people demand it. thanks to idiots who don't pick up after their dogs there is for example still only one single (tiny) beach area here in L.A. county that is designated a dog beach. an interest group formed by dog owners now has to struggle all the way through city, county and state legislation to change this, and the dog owners are the ones who are paying for the whole thing, not public funds. considering that dog owners also pay taxes (that should be used to benefit everyone), it's hardly fair.

Responsible dog ownership has nothing to do with picking up dog ****.
yes it does, and very much so.

to me, the idea of responsible dog ownership (or rather pet ownership in general) is that you act in a way that does not impact the non-pet-owning public negatively in any way whatsoever, be it through behavior, noise, odor or other ways.

to be more precise, it means to not annoy anyone by undue barking, whining or howling, pets that are not well behaved in public places (regardless if people or other animals are concerned), or pooping in inappropriate areas without the owner cleaning it up.

it's a little different if you walk in the woods somewhere and the dog does its business well off the trail, but in public areas it's just totally gross and irresponsible to not clean up.

if you don't want to carry "a pound of poop for two miles", get your dog a backpack and let him carry it. problem solved.

I clean up after my dogs. I normally take them each on 2- 30-45 minute walks a day. I mean I don't like carrying around a bag of dog sh*t for the next 20 minutes, but it's just something I do. Though it seems every time my dogs go poop, it's right after they've smelled some other dog's crap lying on the ground. So, a big thanks goes out to the people that don't clean up after their dogs- it's been a real aid in potty training. (sarcasm cough cough)

I dont think poop is the same as litter, poop is biodegradable. I do think that people should pick up poop in public areas.

Some dogs are what you could call "chronic shedders". This means they are carriers of the bacteria (such as Salmonella or pathogenic E. Coli) which is shed in their stool, and becomes a public health risk to people who might be exposed (stepping in stool, tracking it around, etc). This can be esopecially serious if your dog is ever around any children, elderly, or immunosuppressed people.

So yeah pick up your dogs feces. A cleaning crew who works everyday can't pick up all the piles of people who don't care enough to clean up after themselves. It's not like they work 24-7 to pooper scoop.

I always clean up after my dogs when I take them for a walk or anywhere out in public. Luke (my bulldog) has the habit of pooping at the worst times. Like in Petsmart when he just went before we left the house. I always clean it up. What really kills me in Petsmart is when there's pee or poop on the floor at Petsmart (or similar store) that someone has just left there. I mean the store has clean up stations all throughout the store. How hard is it to walk to one and get a bag, paper towels and the spray cleaner and clean up after your dog? It just frustrates me to no end that people are too lazy or uncaring to bother picking up after their dogs.

LOL Saintly. My dog pooped in Petco yesterday. I took her to the patch of grass next to the stoor before going in and everything. It was really embarassing and they don't even have cleanup stations like Petsmart does. You have to find an employee and then they call over the loudspeaker for someone to clean it up. Id rather they just gave me a bag and cleaner so I could do it myself.

Do you pick up after your dog when you're on a walk?
I clean up after my dog when we walk outisde my hometown. On walks in my town, I don't clean up. This is entirely due to the problems I've had there with residents and with police over aggressive, loose dogs. If the police and my neighbors refuse to enforce or obey leash laws, I'm not going to bother obeying litter laws.

While I clean up otherwise, I often wonder why dog waste is such an issue. Other issues that affect neighborhood harmony and fair use are usually ignored by people who would hunt down and kill anyone who left dog waste on their lawn. Like loose dogs, like homeowners who fail to upkeep their sidewalks - which is required in most towns although rarely enforced. When you never rake, remove fallen branches or shovel snow, you're as bad as anyone leaving dog waste around. A tot sticking his hand in dog waste is kinda gross; an old person trapped in their house because they can't even take a walk around their block without running into 6' drifts of snow on every sidewalk is tragic.

Good point about leash laws but you know how the old saying goes, 2 wrongs don't make a right. I wish cats were on leash laws, I hate going to my flower beds and finding a little dug up place with cat poo in it.

I dont understand your logic?? Because other people are not obeying the laws, you're not going to obey the laws? So because my neighbour doesn't obey the speedinglaws in the city I dont have to obey the seatbelt laws??

It has been mentioned several times why it's a big deal to clean it up. If your neighbourhood is so bad you'd think you'd want to try and make it a better place instead of contributing to all the things that are wrong there...

Yes I always clean up after my dogs on walks. They're pooping on other peoples' lawns - I don't own the land, so I should clean up after my dogs. They poop, I scoop, we walk, I throw out.

Sometimes I don't have a bag with me (by accident, usually right before a walk I grab at least two bags) and have to return later to pick it up. Sometimes I have forgotten about it and believe me I feel bad for the property owners. This rarely happens though, because my routine is leash the dog, tell the dog to say, stuff bags into my pockets, pick up leash, walk out door.
