Hey there Chazzers! Just wanted to post some pictures of my baby Chance. I've been berated all weekend long by a close friend about how stupid I am to have him in my home with my children.

One of his ears is trying to stand up the other one is floppy! He is only 15 weeks old.

He is adorable! ..............what is your friends main argument for not having him around your children?? I don't get what a 15 week old pup could be guilty of

Well, we got him from my sister she got him from a byb that was attemping to breed "pitbulls" His mom is definitely "pitbull" but his dad could not possibly be the male "pitbull" that they were breeding her with, just look at him.

And my friend told me that "pitbulls" were naturally aggressive dogs and that despite all the best training and love in the world we just couldn't be sure that he would attack us someday.

I argued that one out with him but he still thinks that Chance might attack some kid some day, I'm just really upset because he believes the breed should be eliminated, and that they serve no other purpose but to attack.

He just believes they are naturally vicious and will grow to big to ever be trusted around children.

I know that is just the opinion of one person and honestly he thinks I'm a little flaky and that I have poor judgment. And I think he is afraid of big dogs. He told me that a JRT would have been a better choice of dog. But in my opinon JRT are just as inclined as "pitbulls" for aggression and that I wouldn't leave my children unsupervised with either breed. Not that I don't trust them, it's more a matter of not trusting my children not to provoke them. If the opportunity presented itself and the circumstances allowed I wouldn't mind having any type of dog in my home. I certainly don't think that one breed should be eliminated either. It all falls into responsible ownership.

I've done my research, and I work with my dog, I can't afford to put him in classes yet but as soon as I get my son's tuition paid off it is on the top of my list.

Oh like JRTs are a good choice with kids :rolls eyes: The american and canadian club websites state THEY ARE NOT GOOD WITH KIDS lol. Older children are ok.

Ask her why in the 20's-50's the staffie and APBR were the most popular and respected family dogs?

Dekka, ROFL!

You know, she looks positively vicious. But, if she eats your kids, you could probably get a refund for their tuition, and you wouldn't have to buy her food for a few days! Win-win situation.. you ought to ask your friend if he wants to get in on the bargain. ;)

ETA... she is SO adorable. :D Is she sort-coated all over, except the ears?

Yeah when we first got Chance he was really fuzzy and fluffy, but he is growing into the fur. It super soft like cashmere too. But it is really long in by the ears. And crinkly like it thinks it ought to be curly or something.

Looks like a GSD to me. Doesnt really look much like a pit at all.

Enjoy your new baby, he is very handsome :). And dont listen to what uneducated people say. I know many people with kids & Pitties. They make a great combination..

I know, It's not like I'm ashamed of his mother or anything, but my husband and my vet agreed that it is in his best interest's to license him as a GSD mix. Even though he doesn't look like a pittie I still wont be taking him to any dog parks ever. He likes to hump other dogs at this point, the only dogs I let him play with are the ones that don't get mad about it. We've got some good friends with dogs that think their puppies still so they really enjoy the company.

I'm a little conflicted about that though, on one hand I absolutely adore amstaff and apbt's. And I am proud to say that my dog is part, but if I turely felt that way wouldn't I register him as part pit then? Well, I would like to think that I am a responsible owner and that I would never lose my dog, but in the event that that did happen the humane society in my city would only hold him for 3 days and if they couldn't get a hold of me which wouldn't happen because if my dog were missing for that long I would have my cell phone strapped to my arm at all times and I would be at the humane society aside from eating, and sleeping which I would probably do little of. I wouldn't want to take the risk of him getting put down simply because he is part pit because that is what the humane society does here. It's bitter sweet one part of me hopes he grows into the look but the other part of me doesn't. I am wrong for this?

Has this friend actually seen this puppy, with the face and the ears?
Well, I post pictures on his myspace every week! I like to tease him, we finally just agreed to disagree. But I can't help but to torment the guy. I send him emails with the pictures with subject lines like "OMG you were so right!" And pictures of Chance with the boys and messages like he is terrorizing our family!
