yeah, if you google search poms, about 80% of those look nothing like poms I have ever seen.
they all look like that pic you posted, and the pic the op posted. at most of the dogs we do come from one of the three huge amish puppy mills around here. so I know its horrible breeding that is causing them to look like that. Also, these poms are usually under 8 lbs.
majority of poms people see dont look like a well bred real pom. you answered your own question by saying majority of them probably come from 1 of 3 amish puppy mills. At my shop majority of poms that come in are about 15-20lbs each (and not over weight lol) they look more like mini american eskimos.

Now I am pulling my hair out because I cant even FIND the d@mn website I found that dog on. Its a breeder website. Chihuahua breeder. Now whether or not that dog is chihuahua or even part chihuahua is debatable. Its possible chihuahua breeders are mixing in pom blood to get thicker fuller coats in their lines. THAT is what I think. I am gonna search some more and see if I can find it, darn it.

Now, what do you guys think about this feller?

Chi or pom?

I worked with a guy who showed his long hair chi and he fluffed it exactly like the one in the first post. Takes lots of time lol

You can find many things. I swear some deerhead chihuahuas look so much like min pins with natural ears. If you breed for a certain characteristic, you will get it. Ear set, eye shape, head shape, muzzle length, etc.

I've seen many chihuahuas that have coats like dachshunds. Very short and close lying. For the longest time, I didnt even know smooth coat chis are supposed to have some length to their fur.

I also find chihuahuas with HUGE ears and then I find some that have quite small ears.

I can see the chihuahua in that dog, but also can totally see how he could be a pomeranian too. Some poms are very chihuahua looking.

Poms aren't supposed to have apple heads, their heads are rounded but not domed. However you certainly do see alot of apple head pomeranians running around as of late.

Sometimes its hard to tell when its not a well bred dog...but that is a Pom.
Have to really look at it, and one main giveaway is the tail.
Pom with no undercoat.
