Does anybody know a good chew for powerful chewers? Pretty much every thing we give to sadie, she destroys in 10 minutes. She's got most of her permanent teeth in and i've heard the hard nylabones can damage their adult teeth. This is what she did to her two soft nylabones in about 5 minutes.

The only thing thats ever withstood her monster chewing are kong toys, but she wont chew on them unless there is a treat in them.

We attempted to give her one of the nylabone edible bones but she treated that like a dog biscuit and bit it in half and tried to eat a huge piece of it

Any suggestions?

Try an original Nylabone. The edible ones aren't as tough as the originals. Also, go at least one size larger than recommended. Another option is deer or elk antlers.

Those are the ones i'm talking about. They say not to give them to dogs with their adult teeth cause it can damage them. She's completely chewed off one of the knuckles on her current one.

i've heard alot about the antlers. I just worry she's going to get a big chunk off of it and she not digest them well.

Antlers don't come off in chunks. They kind of shave/grind off. That said, I did have one split after Caleb chewed through the middle of it. But it took awhile to get to that point.

That makes me feel a little better. I always watch her when she's chewing on stuff, especially if its something new.

These are nasty but highly popular in my house
Presidents' Day Sale - Merrick's Naturally Stuffed Twin Hoofers

I have an issue with chews lasting with the JRTs. This is the only chew that they like (not a fan of sythetics) that lasts more than a few min.

If your dog is a swallower you might want to take the bones away when they come out. Our guys are not swallowers lol so its not an issue.

Cow hooves, raw beef shanks and knuckle bones, and bully sticks would all be good things to try. The beef shanks and knuckle bones are pretty similar to the kong, though. Once they get the marrow out, I have to stuff and freeze them to keep my two interested.

Beef ribs, raw. Tough enough that they will last a while, but not so dense your dog will break a tooth as compared to a knuckle bone (I don't recommend knuckle bones...seen WAY too many broken teeth at work). We split up a rack of ribs once a week, the bones from last week are always still lying around so we throw em out and replace them with fresh ones. The dogs chew on them all the time.

Antlers, get them off of ebay but make sure they are fresh...cheapest that way. We got a full rack for $70 shipped, which is probably the equivalent of several hundred $$$ worth off of a pet site. One side has been around for months now, and they have barely made a dent in it but chew on it all the time (we have 4 big dogs that all love to chew on things...highly recommend these).

BabyDane's right. We always warn people to watch their dogs first. If they just chew and try to get the marrow out, it's fine. But if they try to crack the shank or knuckle bones open, they can chip their teeth.
